Except there was a report they are doing 2nd interviews this upcoming week so how can it be be a done deal?
They still have to satisfy Rooney Rule as GM also requires 2 in person. Doesnt sound like the 1st round of interviews were in person so it is possible they know it is IC but need to finish the RR interviews. Also possible just smoke.

Ummm. Does the RR even matter if they were to hire IC?

I still don’t understand why IC would want that job. Trevor Lawrence is massively overpaid and coming off an injury. Coen has a lot of question marks and the structure with the 1st time HC being hired first would not be ideal. They sucked on both offense and defense in a bad division. I get that GM jobs don’t come along all that often, but that situation seems like a real mess.

You could have said that about the Bears coaching job yet Ben Johnson took it. Beauty is in the eye of the beholder

I don’t disagree, but your last sentence is the reason. The good jobs are hard to come by. They’re rarely open. And if they are, they’re hiring internally or they’ll be highly competitive.

If any candidate waits too long, time may just pass them by and they’ll never get their shot. Kinda like the Leftwich of coaching. Also, if Poles were fired, it would do major damage to IC. So, he’s better finding something before that’s even a possibility.

Hes wrong. If you are hiring a minority, why would you still need to interview another minority? The entire purpose of the rule is to increase minority hirings

There is no such exemption just because you hire a minority. Jets still interviewed Rivera, Flores and Joseph even though it was rumored to be Glenn fairly early.

I'm 99% sure this is wrong what this Jordan Campbell guy wrote in this article but can someone confirm the 1% i'm not please? He says the Bears would get the Jaguars 3rd round picks in 2025 and 2026 but they are compensatory picks right?

If Cunningham gets the job, the Bears would receive the Jaguars' third-round back in both the 2025 and 2026 NFL Draft. In an offseason where the Bears are potentially looking to add three new starters along the offensive line, the additional draft pick will certainly come in handy.

They will not get the Jaguars picks in 2025 and 2026 but rather a compensatory 3rd in each of those years

That's what i figured. How do these sports writers not know this shit? It's ridiculous for them not to know something like this IMO.

Williams isn’t some massive contract though.

he’s incorrect. That would be punishing a team for hiring a minority

Yeah, that is probably the reason.

The Jags entire GM decision has been a mess. First to retain Baalke, and then waiting so long to even interview GM candidates.

I guess Cunningham would have the clear cover though if/when Coen fails, he can say it was not his hire.

The point of the rule is both to improve minority hiring AND to give minority candidates more opportunities to interview. Both ultimately serve the same goal.

Hiring has an immediate impact, while interview opportunities create a pipeline for long term stability.

The nice thing about the Jags is they’ll probably be more willing to spend. I imagine getting the thumbs up there isn’t the obstacle it may be here.

If this goes down expect the Bears to trade Tyson Bagaent and Pickens to the Jags for a 6th round pick in the near future, sorts a back bar over drinks accounting correction.

Tyson as insurance for beginning of season, and Pickens to save face with fans.
