Right now it really feels pretty even. The Rams wanted to put themselves over the edge, and they did. Detroit wanted to turn their franchise around, and we will soon find out if that was all an illusion propped up by short term success.

If Detroit falls apart when Ben Johnson and Aaron Glenn get gigs elsewhere, then those extra first round picks don't mean squat. Detroit is back to unrealized potential. Today Detroit should feel good, because they got their franchise turned around thanks to this trade. If in a year or two, they don't have a ring, and the franchise recedes to average (or worse), then it was all false hope.
Meh, I am not sure I agree with the part where Detroit has to win a SB. Back to back division titles and relevancy are tangible achievements, I am quite sure their merchandising has increased 10 fold, etc etc. I guess it depends on from who's perspective you are looking at it from. The litmus test really should be are they better off now then they would have been if they would have kept Stafford and not made the trade?

Context needs to be provided here. In the season before Monken got there, Jackson missed 6 games due to injury, JK Dobbins and Edwards both missed half the season due to injury, and their best receiver was DeMarcus Robinson (aside from Mark Andrews).

With Jackson, the Ravens averaged 25.1 PPG, and without him, 15.3 PPG.

By the time Monken joined, Jackson has been healthy, their RBs have been mostly healthy, they drafted Zay Flowers which has helped open up the offense, and then brining in Henry obviously helped a ton.

Jackson missed 4 games, not 6.

Derrick Henry didn't join the Ravens until 2024.

JK Dobbins tore his ACL in Week 1 of 2023.

Despite all of this, the Ravens went from 19th & 16th without Monken in 2022 to 4th & 6th with Monken in 2023.

Hadn't thought that much regarding Monken myself.

I've been hearing a little about him. I like that he comes from the Ravens, who are known to be a good organization. Also know he is a Wheaton native, so he's from the area.

I still am all in for Ben, but Monken is the one name out of the "unknowns" where my first immediate reaction wouldn't be "Oh no, they fucked it up again."

He's the one out of the lesser known bunch I'd pick if I had to that had a chance to pleasantly surprise.

Again, putting my UGA homerism aside, analyze how he called games for them with sub-standard QBs and had that offense humming. Notice the 180 degree downturn there since he left. Look at how the Ravens offense has improved since he went to BAL.

He’s the real deal.

Bears are interviewing 3rd for Ben Johnson. I’d rather be first (patriots) or last (jaguars) but I don’t think it has any real significance.

Definitely not 4 games. He only played in 12 out of 17. And I said 6 because in the game he got hurt, he was out in the 1st Q. So fine, he missed 5.75 games.

Obviously, having Lamar makes a huge impact. And again, they had a poverty QR room and were on their 3rd string back.

I'm not saying Monken isn't a good OC, but the situations were not the same. When you compare one season's stats to another, these things matter. When Jackson was healthy, the Ravens averaged 25.1 PPG, which would have been good for 8th in the league, which looks much better than 19th.

Otherwise, you can do the same thing in reverse and point out how the Bucs were 12th in the league in scoring during Monken's last year there, and jumped to 3rd when Bruce Arians took over the next year.
