That's exactly it. That was the speculation. He wanted the Bears job, but went back to the Lions because the Bears kept Eberflus one more year. Which means he is coming here once the Lions are done in the playoffs, if the speculation holds true. Should be noted this was speculation not from the people the peanut gallery would have an issue with, but I believe came from the likes of Breer, Schefty, etc the last hiring cycle.

As you said, its still all just speculation and rumors.

But it is funny that if this is all true, and Johnson is indeed coming here, you have a bunch of Bears fans who have been hurt too many times and have too much PTSD to ever believe that the Bears could be ANYONE'S top choice, let alone the prize coach of a hiring cycle, and then you also have the people in the media who behind the scenes know or at least suspect he is coming here, and are doing everything they can to make him change his mind, for their own reasons and agendas - likely to no avail...

I personally would be happy with any of brady, monken or ben johnson...even okay settling for mccarthy. so to me not a big deal if he goes elsewhere.

I know certain posters will act like chicken little if ben johnson chooses the jags or raiders.

It would suck if the Bears didn't get BJ :rimshot:

That being said, I think there are a couple hires that make sense for the Bears, and if we came away with Monken, I'd be good with it.

If Monken and BJ go elsewhere, then and only then would I be ok with turning to McCarthy.

I have those 3 as the top 3, but I have Johnson and Monken near tied, and McCarthy well below either - higher floor, but lower ceiling. It's just that after McCarthy, I have everyone else well below that line, mostly because they are either defensive coaches, or unproven beyond 1 year, and I'm done with 1 year wonders.

Brady is not signing Justin Fields because he knows he sucks.
We have no idea who Brady likes and I'm not speculating on it because it's way too early in the process but there's been an archetype that's been successful recently in the NFL that Fields fits.

-highly drafted by inept franchise
-poorly coached by said franchise
-let go by inept franchise

So long Krithi, I hardly knew ya. Actually, I have no idea who the fuk you were but you were shit at analytics if they were actually listening to you

he's the guy whose analytics had Velus/Fields and Claypool as the greatest athletes on the Bears....sportsmockery who i discovered has me blocked on twitter for reasons unknown posted a pretty good takedown. I guess it's up to Poles now to draft the right guys with videos of jumping out of pools

Athlete is not the same as football player.

This is exactly my line of current thinking.

Honestly, why does BJ care so much about his own guy? Dude has spent 2.5 years as an OC, he could be brainless when it comes to player personnel.

It makes total sense to me. Poles has 3 years showing he sucks. Baalke has a similar track record of suck (though still way better career record than Poles). Why hitch your wagon to proven sucky GMs if you have all the negotiating leverage? If you fail, at least it's because your group failed and wasn't because of some already present anchor that handicapped your chances before you even got the job.

Jags owner has already said he would be willing to fire the GM. He really should have fired him already.

If that happens they are easily the second best opening and you could make a very reasonable argument that it is the best opening.

Someone said Johnson doesn’t want to be associated with getting someone fired so they needed to do it before his interview. Which that doesn’t even make sense because Telesco was obviously fired because diva BJ has to have the world to leave Daddy Danny.

If he watched the games he would know they dominated both games. Flus took BJ to school, 3 times in a row.
Maybe they should setup a zoom interview with this Flus guy ... just gathering intel ...

Can somebody tell me what in the name of the diversity, the equity and the inclusion a Football Analytics Director actually really does?

Poles has had his hits and misses. Baalke has been truly awful everywhere he’s been.
