Endless patience for Fields, zero patience for Williams. Even with Williams having a better season that Fields ever has had statistically. I’ll never understand it.

Im sure this has already been covered 100000 times, but its because he was the #1 OA pick and hyped for years as the next great NFL QB.

Thus far he's been a disappointment. Still has shown plenty of flashes to make people think he will be very good, but not what we were all expecting.

Fields was not this level of prospect, mitch 100% was not.

Caleb has made everything involving football look pretty easy up until being drafted by the bears. His first game ever he led an insane comeback vs Texas. It just hasn't been what people expected is all.

The criticisms are also valid too, because he has an enormous amount of skill players around him. He left a lot of meat on the bone this season, if he made his layups(That bo nix, jayden daniels, drake maye are all making) he'd easily be ROTY right now and the bears likely also wouldnt have 4 wins.

I still think he will be great, but there is a validity to the criticism vs. drafting a guy like Mitch who only started a handful of games in college.

What were you expecting?

Stat wise around what he has now, but I was not anticipating he would look clueless in regards to pocket presence and also very inaccurate/inconsistent(1st halves, deep balls).

Its crazy to think he's almost at the bears passing yards record with all the issues he's had this year. If he made those layup deep balls and played more consistently in games he'd be on pace for a 5k season right now.

The issues aren't with his stats, its just with his play overall. He looks fantastic in the short ~15 yards game. The guy typically is very accurate, release is super quick, he reads coverages excellent. He also has the same issues fields had with big play hunting, turning down checkdowns, trying to extend plays you shouldn't, walking into sacks, etc. He's also got the mitch issue being wildly inaccurate downfield.

I think he will easily fix the accuracy issues because it was never a problem for him, I'm more worried about the pocket presence because thats a lot more difficult to coach out of a player. Hopefully poles(or whoever the gm is) just puts every resource into the OL so he doesnt have to do too much in the pocket.

So you were expecting the best QB in the NFL right off the bat? I mean 5k yards he would be easily the best right now. I think maybe you had to high of expectations for year 1. Is that fair to say?

Wonder what people would be saying if the Bears won those 5 games that he put them in a position to win? (Colts, Commanders, Packers, Vikings, Lions)

Yes he wasn’t perfect in those games and you can pick apart his game in all of them, but this is a team game. Nobody has stepped up or outperformed expectations this year. The vets have failed miserably and the dumbass coach certainly didn’t help.

No, as I said, I expected about the same stats.

What i didnt expect is his pocket presence to be this bad, him to hold onto the ball like justin bustin, and his crazy inaccuracy downfield.

I also didnt expect him to be as good in the short game as he has been. Whenever its 4th and short I almost always expect him to convert because he's just so damn good in the short game.

Kind of my point is that if he actually did the easy things well this year he'd have been ROTY easily, and the bears likely would have a lot more than 4 wins. He's doing all this with essentially no explosive(20+ yard) plays and being very bad to start most games.

All things considered its still a great rookie season considering the circumstances, I'm just pointing out why many(including myself) are a tad disappointed. Stats dont tell the full story, if I were to rate his season it would be about a C+

Also, caleb knew he was going to the bears for like 4 months.

If this was a draft time decision and the bears traded up to #1 im sure he'd have the same look. No one wants to be drafted as a QB by the chicago bears with their track record
This is sad because it is so dam true. Are we as fans ever going to realize a legit QB? I feel Williams is the real deal. I hope that someone, anyone, in this organization finally does the right thing and get the guy who will elevate this team into the new NFL.

STOP living in the 85 (the past is gone forever) and most of those guys are either brain dead or just plain dead.

oh no!!! bad people had expectations for a #1 overall pick at QB that was hyped as being the guy from day 1. that he would make those around him better, that the O line would look better cuz CW is back there instead of JF1.

how dare folks hold a player to a standard!! #ParticipationTrophy
Exhibit A

it was time to move on from fields. He isn’t the guy. Never was. Never will be. Now bears have a better quarterback. Oh no!!

I’m disappointed in the season for the team as a whole. I think the rookie is doing his part, is he perfect? Not close, but it still might be the best Bears QB season of all time (might set an nfl QB record as well which has to be a first for us). Arrow is only going up, it’s ok to be excited.

I think fans are just exhausted and it’s understandable. This year has been brutal in a series of brutality since about the 1986 playoffs. Even the magic man had a moment against us.

I still have yet to hear one rational post from the people who were so adamant about keeping Fields last year (but nobody would commit to extending him lol). I was attacked for saying last November he was gone because if you can’t extend him you draft a new QB.

How could you have wanted to give Fields a 4th year with how he played and simultaneously attack Caleb Williams for how he is playing? The argument is he was supposed to be the best ever year 1? But you didn’t want to draft him? LMFAO!

Pathetic.

Williams is certainly the real deal as far as being a quality starting NFL QB. He's already proved that.

The question is if he can become consistent enough and work on his weaknesses to become elite. Personally I see no reason why he cant, but like I noted in a different thread his floor is Jay Cutler...which considering the past QB's since then is pretty great to have as a floor for a rookie

I was for keeping fields and it wasnt exactly that I was anti-Williams, I just had no faith this franchise could develop a QB.

I guess I was right on that part, but williams has shown he has far too much talent to let the shitty bears ruin his career.

My favorite teams
  1. Chicago Cubs
  1. Chicago Bulls
  1. Chicago Bears
  1. Maryland Terrapins
Imagine if Caleb got to play with some of the great Bears WRs of the past such as Byron Pringle and Dante Pettis

Don't forget Venus and Equesteinamious!

Don’t you think in hindsight that’s not a healthy attitude to have? I mean they might as well just fold up the franchise and give up if they thought like that.

Well, yea. George and Ginny should sell the team. They are obviously the issue
