Next year?

Teravainen is going to need to have one hell of a lot of skill to make up for his small frame, if he's going to play in the NHL next year. I think he needs at least another year overseas and then another year or two in Rockford. Not expecting him to don the Indianhead anytime soon.

Agreed.

His size has fluctuated relentlessly since the draft- 5'9/5'11 back to 5'9.not to mention his weight. I would hope they bring him along slowly, there is no need to rush this kid unless he really is the second coming of Kaner. Sucks tho, he is a PP wiz from reports and limited viewing.

according to CapGeek, here are the possible Hawks UFA's after next season:

Bolland- peace out if not somehow traded beforehand.
Carcillo- didn't understand the extension but see ya.
Hammer- hopefully they extend him.
Crawf- 50/50 on him.
Brookstank- it was nice knowing ya...not really.
Bollig- nuff said. dude sucks at hockey.

Have you turned the corner and actually started liking Hammer Joe?

And yes, other than Crow, the rest can go. I think that the next week will be the last time any of us see Bolland in a Hawks sweater. Too many guys on the current roster and in the Rock that can do what he does for a fraction of the price. Cannot keep a guy like that around given the cap going down.

I've always liked Hammer. Not sure if you got me mixed up with another person here.

I hate Oduya not him. Forgot to mention, I met & took a pic with Hammer. He's always been one of my favs.

Also, i'm probably only one of a few Kruger fans around here.

I think Oduya does a lot of things that go unnoticed and that's why I like him

It's just an opinion. I like Hammer but I like I said I think Oduya does small things that don't normally get noticed, you're entitled to your opinion as well Joe

Liking him =/= core

I suppose, just an opinion, you don't need to like it, that's why I'm not going for GM of the Hawks

Where did you make up this projection and just how many games in Rockford did you see to come to this conclusion about Jayes?

Jayes is much, much faster then Bickell and on the same level of skating. Your follyrific notion that Bickell is a better skater is torked every time the guy stumbles over his skates, something he has done once in every playoff game since the Kings series. Bad ice? (snicker)

As for "playing physical", Bickell didn't suddenly turn into a physical player until his contract year, and was questioned repeatedly if he was ever gonna play that style. He did, it just took him until he had to prove he could do it in the NHL until he was getting ready for a nice pay day.

Wait, Jayes is still on his ELC, silly me. His under a million contract works in the Hawks favor instead of throwing a bunch of money at Bickell so he can sleep walk thru years then turn the light on for his next contract.

Classic RubeWriter.

Yep. Dude has been invisible last 3 seasons. I'd hop on the Bowman hate wagon then and there if they pay Bickell big money.

Man, you guys are all gonna be so disappointed when Bolland isn't traded this offseason and gets a contract extension in 2014. :buttrock:

He might not be traded this upcoming offseason, although I truly feel that he will. He will not however be given an extension. The money to re-sign him for what he provides this team just isn't there given the new cap. There are far more important pieces to this team that will need to be re-signed than Bolland. The Hawks cannot waste 3.375 million or more on at best a third line center. He will never be a second line guy, simply for his horrific numbers at the dot. I am shocked to say this, but Shaw provides the same things and more for a lot less money.

That was more of a joke than anything else. Bolland has been my favorite Hawk to watch for the last 4-5 years and it's disappointing to know he's probably near the end of his tenure here.

But when Bolland was on his game, he was one of, if not THE, best shut-down centers in the game and was criminally underrated on this board. The argument's not worth having anymore, though, because for whatever reason he's just not playing at that level anymore.

I wouldn't be surprised when the Hawks win the Cup they buy out Hossa.

Hossa might be done.

I'll say

Toews
Kane
Keith
Seabs
Sharp
Leddy
Saad
Shaw

I know that's a weird list but let me explain. I leave off Bolland and Handzus because they're going to be cap victims.

I love Hoss, and though he's still a pimp he makes a ton of money, he's injury prone, and he's old. I just don't think he's a critical piece for the FUTURE. He doesn't have a whole bunch of quality years left.

Saad and Shaw are young, cheap, and effective. I think they'll grow into the next pair of horses.

Leddy has the ability, if he stops making stupid passes and gets his grit together, to be a Norris type guy. Obviously the first 6 guys I listed are producers now and I look for them to stay producers for a while, and I think the three kids can be future cornerstones. Kruger and the rest of them can be replaced. Bolland and Hossa are players now but I don't know that we can count on them two years from now, especially considering the way the cap is going to change.

The way we control the puck our goalie is always just a spare part. We just need a decent goalie to excel.

I honestly think his dad dying had something to do with it. He hasn't been the same since...
