Got a feeling there will be a lot of this after today's game, one way or the other. So let's try to keep it in here as much as possible.

The OP
Pay will be high fling forward, but he's a top half/top dozen guy. He isn't gonna stop every shot he should in a game but is plenty capable of staying square and dependable.

But needs more rest in the regular season than he got this year.

He played well in periods 3 and 4 (and what little we saw of 5).

But he's been very poor in this series. I understand LA has a lot of skilled offensive players, but he didn't touch a puck in some periods of this series. Period 3 of Game 2 was like dodgeball.

But we live on, and he needs to steal one Friday. He is capable.

Others may disagree but in my mind he is the only reason we got past Minnesota. Then he sort of crapped the bed in games 2-4 of this series. Probably an oversimplification but it seems like he lets down or loses concentration when there are not many SOG against, but when the other team is peppering him constantly he sharpens up.

Crawford struggles even when Chicago has some of the best defensemen in the NHL.

Yeah, I think so, too.

Not all of those D-men have been playing up to snuff.

As others have said in this forum, the Hawks don't make it to this round without (thanks Jntg) Crawford's stellar play in the prior two rounds, particularly against the Wild.

That being said, he has not been at his best in this series.

But the two goalies in this series have SA% of .894 and .882. Neither is exactly lighting it up.

Without Crawford's stellar play, not with it :smug:

Are you sure you're not just saying that based on outcomes? Consider the impact that the Toffoli-Carter-Pearson line has had. Typically, a lot of the Blackhawks mistakes don't result in goals. It just so happens, and unluckily so, that the 70s line is on a hot streak for LA. It seems like they're converting chances at an abnormally high rate. This line has been prominent in every game going back to game 2. If it was solely attributable to a drop off in defense, would LAs other lines be as prominent?

Some of those best defensemen often times do incredibly stupid shit like screening off Crawford, turning the puck over etc etc. Crawford isn't some godly goalie but when his defensemen aren't shitting the bed he still looks better. An issue I have been noticing is the repeated bad timing on line changes leaving Crawford high and dry trying to stop shots.

The Avs are my main team. If you want to see an example of a goalie compensating for bad defense, check out Varlamov. But please on the Blackhawks defense being remotely as close to as bad. Crawford is coddled by comparison.

Well I am a what most would call a bandwagon hockey fan to begin with. I don't follow the full regular season. I watch maybe a dozen games but I follow the playoffs completely. I don't fully understand the game anyways but that is neither here nor there. I get the whole "you don't understand what you have" mentality but the defense has made critical errors leading to goals in these playoff series. I am not trying to make excuses for Crawford, I just see him not getting the proper help at times.

Its pretty much a clusterfuck of mistakes. Bad turnovers, too much stick handling at times, bad timing on line changes, bad passing, blocking your goalie, taking stupid penalties etc etc. Lots of things have lead to seemingly soft goals on Crawford but he also has let in his fair share of softies where its all on him. The man is still a good goalie though.

Like I said before. Is it really the errors or LAs conversion on chances that has made the difference? I'm not going to do it all over again but I laid it out in a fairly lengthy comment that pointed to how the fact that one line has been lopsidedly more productive points to something other than a general defensive meltdown. LA has a line that is converting chances at a higher rate than normal. It may not even be that the Hawks are making more mistakes.
