I'm thinking about making a table and a bed frame, because the store bought shit is trash. Was thinking about a table with a removable top so it wasn't too heavy to move.

When you say the top I'm assuming you mean attaching the slats together?

No....I meant the actual top. I use the Kreg jig for all the rails etc. Table with a removable top is easy. Just leave a 1/4 inch on your legs above the rails and rout out the squares for the legs in the top. Then set the top on the rails.
This is the part I use the Kreg on.

You can see the 2 holes on each rail where the screws go in.

Yup, that was the picture that I noticed the Kreg jig on. I was talking about the actual table top for the biscuits thing. Forgive me I am a total novice on this/terminology.

That is a great idea on the removable top portion. I was thinking about using some sort of latches, but I suppose that isn't needed if you just have it set down over the posts. That is definitely an easier idea than I was thinking about.

Did you use standard wood (from home depot etc) or do you get special cuts? I was thinking that the base could be rather simple construction wood, but might spend a bit to buy something nice for the top.

Also, how are you going to finish it? Paint stain etc?

I used standard lumber from Lowe’s. The wood store I normally use is shut down. I absolutely hate Doug Fir from the big box stores but I was stuck with it. So I used my jointer and planer to turn it into dimensional lumber
As for finishing I am going to use a pre stain blocker designed for open grained woods and then a walnut stain and a satin hand rubbed urathane

Ok- the only real project I tackled through the pandemic was cleaning the garage. (In all fairness, my work life didnt change an iota save for wearing a mask when I had to deal with others).

My lady talked me in to going huge over the summer with a new place.
Just signed the agreement and sent off the earnest on this monstrosity-


Almost a full remodel inside, it is in rough shape.
The detatched garage is haggard and I might just knock it down and start new.

The house sits about a third or so back on the lot, and everything behind it is jungle. Gonna have to get a bush hog and clear cut a sizable portion.

The majority of the work I will be doing myself, but I am looking for someone to do an inlaw apartment for me in the walkout basement.... basically looking for someone to do a bathroom and kitchenette if anyone can reccomend a good and reasonably priced contractor in the faaaaar northwest burbs.

How many acres is that? Think you need a full size John Deere.

14 and change... part of the deal was 2 riding mowers stay... but you are right. Totally inadequate for the job.

It is going to be a big change for me. For 20 years I have lived in my current place, under 1000 square feet with a 1 car garage. Every rental I have is nicer and larger than my place.

It is going to be a learning curve, that is for sure.

I have been looking at tractors and at a minimum I would need a plow and a mowing deck. If you have tips on it I would love to hear them.

My guess is like painting the golden gate...start on one side, when you are done, begin where you started again!

Those Dixie choppers haul ass and could probably get it done quick, but that is a lot to spend on a single purpose tool.

Agreed. Much better to buy a full size tractor that can handle multiple tasks. Your'e going to need it.

Congrats! I'm sure it'll be the perfect dream home once your spruce it up.

Kinda looks like a good setting for a horror film tho lol. Buncha kids go out to party at their parents cabin in the woods on a stormy weekend and end up brutally murdered by a man with an ax.

That is why I like it... how else will I lure victims?

As for clearing... I agree that keeping it wild is best. The lady wants goats but they shouldn't need a ton of room- but when her horse gets too old to jump he will wind up being an at home pet...will likely need more grazing room.

After re-doing our laundry room, we had some left over paint and really liked the color so painted our master. Then just replaced out kitchen faucet (it had a leak), it was only 4 years old so I emailed to manufacturer so they sent me new one for free and decided to replace our shit stainless steel sink that came with the house to something a little more modern.

Running out of small projects to do and I'm WFH for another 30 days. We're thinking of doing a new shower in the master. Our shower is currently one of those white acrylic cheap looking things and have always hated it. Anyone ever do their own tile shower? Or one of those shower wall systems??

We'd also like to change up the vanity and mirrors as well, but I'm not concerned with that type of work lol.

When you have the choice and can go to your regular wood store what kind of wood do you use for a table such as that?

I downloaded plans for a coffee table earlier this week and I am thinking about trying to tackle it but only if I can get wood that I like.

I would have preferred to use Alder for the base and walnut for the top.

Edit: If you do decide to build your table out of regular lumber I highly recommend buying the lumber about 2 months before you build and stacking it so it has air flow for the wood to dry. You can buy kiln dried 2x4's (which still warp) but not much of anything else like 2x6 or 2x8. And that lumber is usually really wet and can twist as it dries. I have seen many of these type tables that twisted after they were done because people did them while the lumber was wet. I purchased mine and then made my own makeshift kiln to get them to dry quickly.

It was easy as could be, less than a couple of hours all told.

Nice, I'll have to look at Habitat for Humanity. I've donated some stuff there before that I needed to get rid of. Some of the wall systems we were looking at range from $500 - $800, but can't beat a deal like that. Thanks,

I have a tub that needs a new surround, I am thinking of going with tile though cause it isn't a rental. I get it in a rental you want it to look decent, but more importantly not leak water even with no maintenance. Although I have seen that some of the surrounds have gotten much nicer lately.

Certainly easier to install. I doubt my wife would go for it though.
