Probably about 5-10. 10 is probably the max. Aces have no negatives about them, not even the makeup can be a negative. They also have a proven track record, and you usually know who has the Ace potential when they come up.
For example, Kershaw is in the proving it phase, and he's passing so far. Verlander is probably the reference point for this generation's Ace label. A scout once said (forgot his name, it was a radio interview) an ace is elite 50% of his starts, above average 25% and good the other 25%.

I think if we sat down and thought about it we could come up with a list, I think it should def. be a separate thread though.

If that is the definition of an ace, I think there is a category of starters between an ace and a number 2 that Matt Garza falls into.

Great game for Shark last nite. Every game he just improving more and more. LaHair just stays hot. Good to see Stewart help team. My boy Campana with 2 more hits :)

As for ACE discussion i agree there only about 8-10 of those guys in the league. Garza is a legit number 2. Shark is acting like a number 2 but would be very happy if he 3.

Perhaps, or there's just a misnomer about being a number 2. I ID a #2 as a great pitcher, and there aren't that many of those guys either. I just think Aces are Elite. You're right, this has to be another thread.

RF DeJesus

CF Campana

SS Castro

1B LaHair

LF Soriano

3B Stewart

C Soto

2B Cardenas

P Dempster

As long as Campana has a BABIP over 400 I am pretty happy with this lineup.

Campana needs to drop more 100-point bunts.

If he is getting on base I don't have a problem with him at the top of the order. I just don't think it will continue, but maybe I am wrong about that. Certainly didn't expect LaHair to be leading 1B with homeruns and OPS at this point in the season.

Ah, you didn't see the bunt either last night or the day before. That was a good bunt. Which is odd considering how many times he bad bunts.
