Probably about 5-10. 10 is probably the max. Aces have no negatives about them, not even the makeup can be a negative. They also have a proven track record, and you usually know who has the Ace potential when they come up.
For example, Kershaw is in the proving it phase, and he's passing so far. Verlander is probably the reference point for this generation's Ace label. A scout once said (forgot his name, it was a radio interview) an ace is elite 50% of his starts, above average 25% and good the other 25%.
I think if we sat down and thought about it we could come up with a list, I think it should def. be a separate thread though.
If that is the definition of an ace, I think there is a category of starters between an ace and a number 2 that Matt Garza falls into.
