#Cubs call up catcher Wellington Castillo, agent said.

Welington Castillo's agent told Enrique Rojas of ESPNDeportes.com that his client is being called up to the big leagues.

Paul Sullivan says Clevenger is going to the DL. Tight side.

Since Byrd was traded the cubs are 4-2. They kind of are starting to look like a team. If Campana can hit .260, and maybe walk 30 times, he is going to get 60 stolen bases this year. He may be the legitimate lead off man. Castro should put up 50 stolen bases too. That kind of speed puts alot of pressure on mediocre defenses. They need to cut Soto's playing time way down, and maybe go to Mather/Baker more at third. Maybe they are giving the new guy a chance ot get it going. He got a big double tonight. They need some help in relief too. Wood/Marmol has just not worked. They've got to fix that.

Regardless of Campy walking 30 times and hitting an extremely empty .260, why do you think the Cubs can compete this year?

Yeah there isn't much of that left...though it is nice to see them beat a good pitcher like that.

It definitely helps that the opposing offense is not offensive.

The Pirates' offense this season is particularly atrocious.

They were really bad last year as well, and this year Casey McGehee is one of their best offense players. So yeah that isn't good.

The Cubs apparently are switching Volstad and Samardzija in the rotation to allow Shark to get some extra rest (smart move by the way since his innings need to be monitored closely as he is being stretched out into a starting role). Volstad will start the last game of the Phillies series and Shark will open against the Reds.

Wasn't he a starter in the minors?

He was but he has never thrown more than 141.2 IP and that was five years ago (2007). If he makes 30+ starts he is going to blow way past that number and much more than a 50 inning jump from than the 88 innings he throw last year.
