They are likely to close the gap some between them and the 2003 Tigers without their two best hitters.

That's true. Imagine if Wandy had gone too.

It would be Carlos Lee and a bunch of nobodies. And Lee isn't all that good anymore either.

Nightly check:

1. Houston .333
2. Baltimore .398
3. Cubs .420 (huh huh huh)
4. San Diego .429
5. Kansas City .432

Cubs on a tear! Precariously close to losing out on the #2 pick and dropping out of the top five altogether.

The loser teams have already played, so:

1. Houston .330
2. Baltimore .394
3. Cubs .425
4. Kansas City .429
5. San Diego .434

What a totally inconvenient time for a win streak

Houston was epically bad with Bourn and Pence. I don't know what they are right now after trading those guys away and sending Brett Wallace down.

Alright, let's see:

2. Baltimore .400
3. Kansas City .425
4. Cubs .430
5. Seattle .438
6. San Diego .439

Now that the Cubs have extracted another clubhouse cancer, they're on a tear and moving out of the top picks (tongue squarely in cheek):

1. Houston .314 (good lord they suck)
2. Baltimore .390 (they also suck, but not as much as the Astros)
3. Kansas City .413
4/5. Minnesota/Seattle .437
6. Cubs .438 (still 17 games back of both NL Central and Wild Card)
7. Oakland .442
8. San Diego .443

And that's before we take into account comp picks for unsigned first rounders after tomorrow. Funny how the Cubs have such terrible timing of win streaks, but that's baseball for ya.

FML... I thought we were still #3... this is the worst season ever, we suck even more than last year but still don't have that high of a pick and are WAY out of the playoffs.

Do you know which teams have comp picks this year?

The comp picks Rice is talking about is for teams that don't sign their first round pick. The first 15 picks are protected from losing for free agent compensation. When the final signings are announced we will hear about those comp picks.

Ya, I screwed up, I was thinking last year's draft for some reason.

I think MLBTR will set up their reverse standings for the draft soon after tomorrow. Basically the unsigned guys will net their teams this year's pick + 1. Which would drop the Cubs even further down if one of the top five don't sign this year.

At this rate, the Astros will only win 50 or 51 games. That's 111-112 losses, folks.
