Cubs are Expressing Interest in Chris Capuano |

Update: As I was writing this article, more news came in regarding Chris Capuano and the Cubs. The Cubs could be closing on a deal for the southpaw. The Cubs want a deal done with him. The deal isn’t done yet, but there’s a strong possibilty a deal could be done soon.

According to the Chicago Sun-Times, the Cubs are expressing interest in free agent pitcher Chris Capuano. The Cubs number 1 priority going into the off-season is starting pitcher and the Cubs being link to Capuano in no surprise. They will probably be linked to many pitchers as names have already surfaced. Some names the Cubs have been linked to besides Capuano are CJ Wilson, Mark Buehrle and a few Japanese pitchers most notable Yu Darvish (however, he’s hasn’t been posted yet, but the word is he will eventually). Capuano is a 33 year-old lefty, who pitched for the New York Mets during the 2011 season. In 2011, Capuano posted a 4.55 era with a 11-12 record and struck out 168 batters in 186 innings. Also, Capuano is a strike thrower and does not walk much as he only walked 53 in those 186 innings. That’s pretty good and does make bats miss. However, he does give up runs and hits, which isn’t what you want to hear.

Capuano made his MLB debut in 2003 with the Arizona Diamondbacks, but later was shipped to the Milwaukee Brewers (Decemeber 3rd, 2003). So.. his stint with the D’backs rarely lasted. Capuano made his named with the Milwaukee Brewers as that’s where his career mostly lived. He was with the Brewers from 2003-2010 with contracts varying. In 2009 and 2010, Capuano signed minor league deals with the Brewers. During those years, Capuano was up and down from Triple A. After the 2010 season, Capuano left the Brewers and signed with the New York Mets on a bargain deal. It was more of a low cost-high reward kind of deal. As the Mest signed Capuano to a 1 year contract worth 1.5 million. But now he is a free agent and looking for a new team. Could his 2012 team be the Chicago Cubs? I don’t know and don’t think it will happen soon if he is a Cub in 2012.

I’m not high on Capuano, but I would rather see him in the Cubs starting rotation that Rodrigo Lopez, Russ Ortiz, Dave Bush, Doug Davis and even Jeff Samardizija (I think his spot in in the bullpen). If he would come on a deal like the one he signed with the Mets, why not. However, the Cubs should look at all other starting pitchers before they think about signing Capuano. If the Cubs sign one top or trade for a top pitcher, then signing Capuano would be fine.

Theo Epstein said going into the Winter Meetings starting pitching is out number 1 prioirty. We have heard the Cubs are shopping Matt Garza, but I doubt he will be traded. We will hear the rumors, but when the 2012 seaosn kicks off, Garza will still be on the North Side.

Campano, Capuano, and Campuano

His stint rarely lasted? Just sounds dumb. You don't think it will happen soon... okay. But why? Give some reason at least. You doubt Garza will leave then say that he will be in Chicago for sure... speculation. Bad Waldo. Bad.

Please for the love of Jesus DeChrist read over your shit.

From what Theo said, yeah I don't think he'll be traded. They won't get what they want, so why trade him then.

His stint rarely lasted, does not sound dumb and is just fine. People have their right to their opinion and that's just that.

Also, I did read over it and it sounds fine.

He had 4.55 ERA in Citi Field!!! Telling me his ERA wont go up at Wrigley? I think Cashner would do better then 4.55 ERA

I'm telling you that I don't give a **** about ERA. FIP is in the 4 range, xFIP is a little lower. K'd over 8 per 9. Walks were low. SIERA & tERA were lowest of his career. Since when is Cashner a starter? He can't pitch a full season. He has never done it before, it's Special person to think he can now. Cashner can't be counted on to be a starter for this team.

Interesting that you know what the offers for him are and you also know what Thed Hoystein wants for him. Yet you can't write a complete sentence.

His stint lasted not often? Interesting that you think that makes sense. Yes, people do have their opinions and it's a fact that that sounds stupid.

It sounds fine to you? 3 different spellings of Capuano is fine? That's funny!

Checking his stats, keeps the walks down, strikes out a bunch of guys, but can't keep the ball in the park. Bad news for Wrigley Field games.

Sabermetrics are OVERATED!!! there is questions to everyone one of them. I dont care how u try to point it Capuano is a BAD SP!! Has always been and always will. Where has he ever won? NOWHERE. He goes to BAD TEAMS for a reason. Teams that want to win NEVER go after him. Honestly your the type of Cub fan that allows GM's to make these kind of moves with no regret. Long as you see a name that u know ur happy. Who cares if they blow, i rather see a young kid given a chance then a old vet who has and will do nothing!!

Do you understand value? 1 or 2 million for a 2 or 3 win player is very positive value. I don't like Capuano. I like the value.

And I don't care what sabermetrics say.

If Chris Capuano and David Dejesus are the marquee signings in free agency, I'd be disappointed.

But, I'm willing to believe in what Epstein and co. are doing.

Same stuff was said about Garza. Plus, if the wind is blowing in, it's not a problem. I'm not overly worried about it.

K's and BB's are now sabermetrics? Interesting lol.. There are questions to every stat, sir. No stat is perfect. I just chose to look at stats that have to do with the pitcher more than his team.

He is a Bad SP because of his ERA? Wins? You're resorting to wins? Funny stuff.

He will do nothing? I'm pretty sure he has more value than yo boiiii Cashna

Get off the value thing. The real Cub fans care about whats going to help team win NOW or in future. Capuano DOESNT DO EITHER!!! Cashner has POTENTIAL. So lets see what he does over the next 1 or 2 years. Then by 2014 when fans expect to compete we will know if he part of it cause Capuano WILL NOT BE!!!
