I'd be very open to Berkman.. Knowing he has declined some the contract shouldn't be too much.

You obviously need to change you username.

You show me a quote from Hendry then. Go on, show me. Anyone, show me a quote from Hendry that says or even implies we won't get Dunn. Please, I'd love to see a quote from Hendry!

STFU, you dumb ass. GM's can't talk about players and he's still technically a Nat. JH went around the idea and sais no big FA this winter. Someone please quote this so CO can see.

Hendry won't be big on big-name free agents - Free Agent news

With a Payroll Budget that figures to leave little room for big-shot Free Agents, indications are that General Manager Jim Hendry is focusing more on the likes of lefty-hitting Nick Johnson -- if the medicals look good enough -- for first base and is keeping an eye on former Cub Kerry Wood's status for a possible bullpen job.

Jim Hendry is Not Looking to Rebuild the Chicago Cubs | Bleacher Nation | Chicago Cubs News, Rumors, and Commentary

But imagining is all you can do, as current Cubs general manager Jim Hendry has no intention of rebuilding.

“I’m here to tell you it’s not some kind of a major rebuilding job,” Hendry told Bruce Miles of the Daily Herald yesterday. “When you start seeing the improvement in the young people that we have and the type of young arms that we have and the arms that we have coming, you make three or four solid moves in the off-season and your young guys keep developing, then you’re right back to being a contending team, and that’s the way we’re going to go about it.”

I've spent a good 15-20 minutes looking for actual quotes of Hendry's, saying Dunn, or any big name FA will or will not be picked up, and I can't find any. They don't exist. As of right now, this is as close as you will get. And I'm not getting influenced one way or the other. There are indications that nothing will happen, but that doesn't mean that nothing will.

So, stop the bitchassness about "omg captain obvious you're so dumb hendry won't do anything because so-and-so on some blog said so." Most of the people who are paid to analyze and speculate on stuff like this are more than half the time wrong anyway.

Everything is speculation at this point. I hope we pick up Dunn. I think he'd be a good addition to the club. But I understand that Ricketts is cutting salary, which is why everyone is speculating nothing will happen. But that doesn't mean nothing will.

And don't give me shit about drinking the Cubs Koolaid.

Nice job anyways.

you basically want dunn, but you arent buying into anything that is making you think "oh we are for sure getting dunn, hendry didnt say we werent so we are getting him" so no i dont consider you drinking the kool aid.

That is my point, yes. We're not for sure getting Dunn, but I think it's still remains a possibility. And I'm pretty sure this is Captain Obvious' point as well. There's nothing that says we're not going to get him, but there's (I think) an ever greater possibility that we won't because of the speculation regarding the salary cuts.
