Hendry won't be big on big-name free agents - Free Agent news

Jim Hendry is Not Looking to Rebuild the Chicago Cubs | Bleacher Nation | Chicago Cubs News, Rumors, and Commentary

I've spent a good 15-20 minutes looking for actual quotes of Hendry's, saying Dunn, or any big name FA will or will not be picked up, and I can't find any. They don't exist. As of right now, this is as close as you will get. And I'm not getting influenced one way or the other. There are indications that nothing will happen, but that doesn't mean that nothing will.

So, stop the bitchassness about "omg captain obvious you're so dumb hendry won't do anything because so-and-so on some blog said so." Most of the people who are paid to analyze and speculate on stuff like this are more than half the time wrong anyway.

Everything is speculation at this point. I hope we pick up Dunn. I think he'd be a good addition to the club. But I understand that Ricketts is cutting salary, which is why everyone is speculating nothing will happen. But that doesn't mean nothing will.

And don't give me shit about drinking the Cubs Koolaid.

This. Ricketts has said he will cut the payroll, but has not said how much. Hendry doesn't even know. They can drop the payroll by 11 million and still be able to sign Adam Dunn. That's the whole point. They can lower payroll AND sign the big FA.

That is my point, yes. We're not for sure getting Dunn, but I think it's still remains a possibility. And I'm pretty sure this is Captain Obvious' point as well. There's nothing that says we're not going to get him, but there's (I think) an ever greater possibility that we won't because of the speculation regarding the salary cuts.

Right. There is nothing saying we won't and a lot saying we will. The hiring of Listach, the talk about Dunn with Z, Rami, Demp, Byrd, etc., and the fact that Dunn likes Wrigley.

dunn liking wrigley doesnt = dunn

No, they don't equal Dunn. But they are certainly factors that go into the decision.

No, no, you're right. A player liking somewhere could have no effect on where he goes. The fact that a former coach is here could have no effect, too, whether it be good or bad.

I don't understand why you all are so blind to the fact that the Cubs need a 1B.

Well, Adam LaRoche is a FA and I think should be the Cubs number one priority with all into count. He's a lefty, has power, an rbi man, only 30, a good defender and will come at a reasonable price.

I agree with the first paragraph. Completely.

I wouldn't say that this is nothing saying we won't and a lot saying we will. There's probably more going against picking up Dunn because of the salary decrease.

But I think that Ramirez's talk about leaving unless a big name showed up (I believe I read something regarding this but I cant find it and I could definitely be making this up) is an indicator that something might happen.

I mean I would love to say everyone drop it until, you know... something actually happens, but then I wouldn't have this to come read whenever I get sick of reading my Special person amount of Theology homework.

But seriously, let Captain and I live in our little dream world, in which the Cubs will actually pick Dunn up, haha.

I will give you a pass and let you move on, just because you are realizing it is a dream world, and you arent coming across like a tool. so you get a pass.

A) How do you know how much he is going to cost?

B) How do you know he won't come here?

So what if he costs 15 million, if we have it, which I think we will, let's get him. He is the most consistent player in about all of baseball. I can't think of anyone else who steadily puts up the kind of numbers Dunn does. He's going to be about a 4 win player, at 15 million, that is acceptable. It's a little under market value.
