Colvin will be getting time at 1B as expected.
Tyler Colvin better dust off his first baseman's glove. Cubs manager Mike Quade said Sunday he will have Colvin get some work in there this spring. Right now, Jeff Baker is the only backup first baseman on the depth chart.

Only time i see him playing 1B would be cause of a double switch. If Pena healthy he will play 158-160 games.

Maybe (obviously) i have missed it, but i thought that issue was dead? When i read that earlier today on the Tribune web site, i just couldn't believe it. I thought the case of moving Colvin to first was dead, even though i assumed they'd play him at first here and there in ST just for the plate appearances and experience at first, but i figured it that they would do that mainly in case of emergency. However, this sounds like they want to play him there to see exactly what they have. I just feel it was weird timing to say that on the first day.

You never cease to amazing me. This is quite possibly the dumbest thing you have ever said. Is it really that hard to google Carlos Pena? He has never even played 150 games, why would he be playing 158-160? Please, please, please, think before you post.

Spring Training is like making out on the first date. You're really pumped about it but you're also really just going through the motions til you get the real thing.

It was dead for him to play 1B during the season but it was said he will see time in spring training. And here's where it finalizes that he will.

Also Pena will most likely stay healthy (I think) but saying he will play every game is not smart. Def if the Cubs are in playoff contention. Give him more days off so he will be ready for the playoffs, if so. And if he starts to get tired, give him days off to rest so he can get his swagger back.

ding! now only 44 day i think till opening day.

Colvin will play first in spring as he's going to be the main backup if Pena does get hurt, or if he's struggling and needs a day off, although Baker could play first against a strong lefty as well (if Colvin in playing OF).

I'm saying he could be sick because he's out of shape again. I mean, I know he's out of shape because it's been mention. But it's not the right step in the right direction.
