Not a dumb move at all, what he did was similar to Milton Bradley's media behavior. That type of stuff creates problems in the locker room. You never, ever go public like that b/c your teammates will always wonder if they're next. Let's face it, not many Cub fans thought Ricketts had the checkbook to sign anyone a year ago. So let's not start moaning about $$ now.

This was the BEST move they have made all year. Silva is HORRIBLE and has Hendry said he had good 2 months in the last 4 years!!

Silva said he didn't want to be there. Hendry made the right move and gave him his wish. Yeah, it's a waste of money, but it's pretty unlikely that anyone picks him up for the minimum, since there weren't any offers for a trade even WITH the Cubs picking up most of what he's owed. Granted, I still think we should have offered him a bullpen spot, for backup, just on the off chance that someone gets hurt.

While that is true, it sends a nice message:

1. The Club will no longer tolerate dissension.
2. They don't care about guaranteed contracts when making a decision.

The Tribune never would have done what Ricketts just did b/c the Tribune never gave a shit about the fans. Everything they did was based on dollar returns.

Good job TR!

A move that should have been done 1 month ago.

Probably, but probably best to not let Cash know he wasn't going to have competition throughout spring training.

Cubs release Carlos Silva - Chicago Sun-Times

Jim Hendry said, ``that what he’s done the last few years, except for a two-month period is well below major league standards and who seems to have the continual problem of blaming everybody but himself.’’

Sound familiar?, how ironic we wound up with the same thing we traded away. Hendry needs some help in the character assessment department. I like JH, but that's 3 guys he's signed w/the same problem.

To be fair, we traded one for the the other, and got cash back in the deal.....

Oh well. He hasn't been worth anything since his heart attack and now he wants to be an asshole too. I'm guessing every other team saw the same thing so this was a fair move.

God, that's so stupid. Ugh.

It makes the team better. It's not your money, so why care? They were using that money either way, so what is best is to make the team better.

We were responsible for 6 or 8 million or whatever, just think about it as paying a combination of Mateo and Cashner that money. That is overpaying those two players, but Silva was overpaid too anyway.

Great and needed move.

You guys act like it's your money they are spending when it's not!

Silva is much better gone than being a disturbance all year long.

It's a great move by Quade because he is letting people know that he is taking charge and if you don't perform you will be gone. Silva will get picked up and have a few good starts but won't ammount to anything. What is the point of having a over paid lazy ass when you can give a guy like Cashner the innings and experience. If Cash struggles and the Cubs are in it they can trade for a veteran and throw Cash in the pen or down to Iowa.

And he had just been bashing the Cubs organization, so he really earned that release.

Cubs release Silva

I am starting to come around on the whole it's not my money thing.

So again I ask why isn't Soriano cut yet? He should be.

I think your going to see your fair share of Colvin in LF. I'm sure they are not happy about eating money with Silva so they are not going to do that with Soriano. If Sori struggles I would bet Colvin, Bryd and Fuku will be seen a lot in the OF.

It absolutely does not make the team better. How do you not get that?

Having Silva on the team makes the team better.
