Update 1: According to Ken Rosenthal, Manny Corpas contract is a 1-year deal and a major-league deal.
According to ESPNChicago.com, the Cubs have sign pitcher Manny Corpas to a 1-year deal. Terms were undisclosed. Likely to be low contract salary. People belief it will be a minor league contract with a spring invite to spring training. Corpas is a 29 year-old right-handed relief pitcher.
Corpas has a career 12-16 record with a 3.87 era and has struck out 204 batters in 286 innings. Corpas has closed in his career and has 34 saves. All of his career was with the Colorado Rockies when he pitched in the majors.
Corpas made his major league debut on July 18th, 2006 with the Colorado Rockies. However, Corpas then struggled with the Rockies and was released after the 2010 season. Corpas was picked up by the Teas Rangers on April 8th, 2011. That deal was a minor league contract and Corpas did not make the majors with the Rangers during the 2011 season. Corpas was recovering from Tommy John Surgery.
Could this be a move of depth and be a precursor to more relief pitchers being traded? AKA Carlos Marmol. I guess we’ll find out soon enough.
I don’t hate the signing because he has had success in the majors and hope he goes back to that form.
Update 2: According to Bruce Levine, the Corpas signing could be a precursor to Jeff Samardzija shifting to the starting rotation.
Why do the cubs keep giving this guy chances?...He sucks.

Wait, so last year our rotation (before injuries) was:
Dempster
Zambrano
Garza
Wells
Cashner
Now we have (obviously not in this order):
Dempster
Zambrano
Garza
Wells
Cashner
Wood
Samardzija
Theo wants to build around Garza, Dempster won't be leaving, he's giving Z a chance to stay, Wood will be starting, and Samardzija may be moving to the rotation?
Wells would be traded then and Cashner left in Middle Relief or Set-Up (two RSU's?)...
Samardzija has been shaky when we move him around, why not leave him where he can succeed? Cashner has a lot of potential, I still think he should start...
Who said wood is starting?....He isnt even signed a contract yet has he lol
