I think the signing was decent, and he should have somewhat of a bounce back year. I read that nearly half of balls he put in play where ground balls, so hopefully that will change this year and he can give us that left handed power bat in the middle of the lineup we needed.

I don't know if you know this, but Cub fans can say the same thing about Dunn.

Dunn at $14 a year is a way better value than Pena at 10...

Not for a DH. Dunn has a little more power, I think Pena will drive in more. They will hit for the same average. Dunn will walk more, but Pena is a way better defender. I guess you can say their about the same, but Pena is a better fit for the Cubs.

It's also kinda a 2 year deal worth 5M.

You kinda got the point right.. and wrong..

Pena is way better at D then Dunn.. which you got right.

Dunn has more power.. that could be judged one way or the other.

Dunn will probably drive in more runs.. Hence the DH.

I dont think they are anywhere close to being the same; Dunn has 354 HR in 10 seasons, Pena has 230 in 10 seasons; Dunn has averaged 40 HR for the last 7 years, Pena has averaged 27 HR/year the last 7 years. Pena is a better defender, true, which is why he is in the AL. Just another bad Hendry signing.

He's being paid just 5 million this year and 5 million next year in deferred payments. It isn't a bad signing. And don't say that they shouldn't have done it because they aren't close to contending. SOMEONE had to play 1B whether they are close or not.
