Im putting this out here now...

Come late June or July, Cubs and Yankees will be making a block buster deal...

Eovaldi, Miller, Chapman

Cubs will acquire one or two of the three

If Yankees fall out of it by July, i can see them looking to unload and look to acquire young players.

The Cubs are loaded with young hitters and are in great position this year to win it all.

Im not going to try and suggest who the Cubs will need to give up because it going to cost some talent from the system but if their going to go for it this year, they will most definitely need to strengthen the pen.

Looking at possible playoff matchups like Nationals Dodgers Pirates Mets, they all have tough LH hitters..
That where having a guy like Chapman or Miller would really come in handy...

Can you imagine being Maddon and having the choice of bringing in Rondon or one of the lefties to close out games..

I actually think Epstein and Hoyer might try and acquire both Miller and Chapman for the pen..

I know im going to get negative feedbacks..
Their not going to give up the farm and all

I don't think theyd give up the farm or future but i do think Epstein if he really wants to get a deal like this done, will be very creative in working out a deal to satisfy both teams..

Miller and Eovaldi are possibilities but not both. You'd be talking Torres, Contreras, Almora and more. Chapman is not the kind of guy these guys look for, especially just for a couple of months. They might offer redemption for a player with control but in this case? No chance.

I dont think it would cost them a whole lot in top prospects

Miller 31 and would save the Yankees 18 mil if cubs take on whole contract..

Eovaldi with 1 year left of control ..

They might be able to nab them with a package that can include Soler Candelario McKinney Vogelbach Torres Edwards

No top prospects? You've got the #1 in there. Plus I don't think that package gets you Miller and Eovaldi and the Yankees aren't interested in dumping salaries. Again, Eovaldi would not surprise me for maybe Soler, McKinney, Candelerio and Lower level swap of guys. I think Miller is going to SF for Christian Arroyo. Just a hunch.

I don't feel like Miller makes sense personally. I mean I get the idea that he's a LHP and a good one but $9 mil is a lot to be paying a set up guy. And if Theo is to be believed, the cubs don't have a lot of expendable cash on hand given the Coghlan trade prior to the season. Honestly, I think they'd look more at a LOOGY than a dominant set up guy. Strop and Rondon are two of the better 8th/9th inning guys already. Grimm was fairly dominant last year in the 7th. They also have long relief covered with Cahill Wood and Warren. What they are missing other than the 7th-9th guys is someone who's nails against lefties.

Eovaldi makes more sense as mentioned in the other thread. My only gripes with him are that he's a righty(I'd like another lefty behind Lester) and I'm not sure he's got TOR potential. He's got a career 4.07 ERA and a 3.62 FIP. That's more #3ish numbers. His swinging strike rate is 8.4% for his career. It's 9.3% this year which would be the highest of his career. To put that into context, Kyle Hendricks has a career 8.2% swinging strike rate. I love me some Hendricks but he doesn't have a ton of swing and miss stuff. Likewise, Eovaldi doesn't appear to either.

What I worry is that you pay TOR prices for someone who turns out to be Garza. For my money, if you're going to deal for pitching you go whole hog and try to land someone like Jose Fernandez even if it means giving up several more players. Barring that, I also am interested in Danny Salazar and Drew Smyly as both have good swinging strike rates(12.4% and 11.7% respectively). Drew Pomeranz is also sort of interesting at 11.8% on the year.

They need a 1 out guy more than anything. Wood is good for a full inning. You would want a guy with a big breaking pitch that can handcuff a LH batter more than anything here. Rosscup would have been ideal. He was dominate vs LH hitters but got beat up by RH hitters. Just miss used last year. 60 day DL shoulder inflammation. Not sure if he will be ready this year.

I still think it ends up Gerardo Concepcion. lefties haven't done much against him thus far. 7.1 IP vs them at AA. .045 BAA 10 SO. AAA: 3.2 IP .167 BAA 2 BB 4 SO. He has not given up a ER vs them this year so far.

It looks like he has not been as dominate in general in the step up but overall it has not been a huge drop off as is the norm. If anything he is holding his own and dominates LH hitters.

Granted there has been a investment into him so far you would have to expect a call up soon.

On the whole NYY thing. They need a starter looking ahead. Not a rental. I like Nathan but I don't like the short term control issue going on. They could just go after him in FA if needed as the need is not there this year at all. (barring injury which changes everything)

Beck noted a cost issue. Those tend to work them self out as the season progresses. If there is a need then I'm pretty sure it will be addressed. Just as the season started the spending was held. Season on the line I doubt they will hold back.

Even though there was beef with Chapman 2 years ago, he could be nice. Not exactly sure how he is these days, but he was a monster.

We'll need some bullpen help but giving up Torres for a non TOR is crazy. I'm sure we'll have to part with a couple of solid prospects but Torres isn't be moved for a guy who pitches 1 inning.

Damn straight. You trade Torres it's in a package for a TOR starter who can step in if you lose Arrieta. Eovaldi is a nice pitcher but he isn't that guy and I don't trade top prospects for Miller and the rest of that contract. Someone will though.

I'm not even sure you deal Torres to be honest. While it doesn't presently appear there's a place for him, Zobrist is likely gone by the time he's MLB ready. And while they do have Happ, we can't forget he's iffy as a 2B. Many don't think he will stick there. Torres has shown a knack even at a young age to avoid slumps. Additionally, he's seemed to find power this year with a .177 ISO in a pitcher friendly florida league. There's little doubt in my mind he's going to be a top 10 prospect sooner rather than later. He's already at 24 on mlb.com's list and guys in front of him are going to be getting promoted quickly. Torres started slow but he's 3.5 years younger than league average for A+. He hit .179/.289/.308 over 90 PAs in April but has really come around in May hitting .306/.353/.519. If he continues at that rate it wouldn't be a shock to see him in AA by August which would be nuts for a 19 year old.

I think you can make a case for trading Happ before you trade Torres.

It's still early and I think the Yankees can still make the playoffs or at least contend until the end.

Right now it doesn't look like they'll need starting pitching. Kyle Hendricks only being a #5 says something about your rotation. Not sure why no one has confidence in him, he'd be higher than a #5 on probably every other team. Maybe if Jason Hammel drops off like he has in the past or if John Lackey struggles, right now it doesn't seem like that will happen.

If anything, I'd rather the Cubs trade those prospects for Julio Teheran.

I've told anyone who'd listen that Hendricks is vastly underrated. But it's not hard to see why. People get excited over big fastballs and less over guys who throw a lot of ground balls at slow speeds. With that being said, I don't think trading for a starter is about Hendricks or even about this year. The cubs have a $10 mil option/$2 mil buyout on Hammel next year. And as mentioned he has fallen off hard the past 2 years in the second half. I think he's going to be fine this year but it's worth considering.

What I'd like to see them find a way to work out is for them to bring in a young lefty starter who they can use as dual purpose out of the bullpen this year and give them choices for next year. Someone like Drew Smyly makes some sense in that regard.

Agree. Torres is the Cubs' second baseman of the future.

The reality is that you don't really choose who you trade, I mean to some extent yes but if there's a pitcher they target a MLB player first but the first prospect ask is for Contreras which is a no, the second is for Torres. There are other player who will have interest but will be secondary pieces. Vogelbach is a good hitter with a sweet swing but he's blocked in Chicago and everyone knows it, plus his bat will play much better in the AL so the Cubs have zero leverage. Candelerio is a nice piece but not much value yet. You could go down the list.
