The asking price for Miller is ridiculous at this point. One rumor was Schwarber and Torres while another was Almora and Baez. They've supposedly asked for the Giants #1 and #2 prospects in Christian Arroyo and Tyler Beede. Now they might not get what they ask for but the price is still going to be high.

There are all kinds of crazy rumors out there. Doesn't mean any of them are true. I read this morning that Cashman thinks the Yankees could be buyers or sellers in the trade market but let's be realistic. The Yanks aren't going to win this year. Cashman knows this. He will make Miller and Chapman available and I even heard they're thinking of moving Beltran. The guy doesn't want to be fleeced but he also knows Chapman's going to be a FA and probably won't resign with the Yankees so he's going to want to get something from him. He's probably thinking he's in the driver's seat and can make exorbitant demands. But ultimately the Cubs aren't going to give up Baez, Contreras, Almora, or anyone on the major league team for a 3 month rental arm. I think if the Cubs want Chapman he can be had for one maybe two prospects because that's all he's worth and the Cubs aren't in desperate need of an arm. Their bullpen is stocked with good arms. The last two games against the Cardinals showed the Cubs bullpen depth and quality. They pitched like 7 shutout innings against the best offensive team in baseball. There's no way in hell the Cubs are going to move everyday starters (Almora and Baez) for Miller and I think the price will be a lot lower. The Cubs have made some really great trades in the past two years (Rizzo from San Diego, Arrieta and Strop from Baltimore, Russell from Oakland) so they obviously know how to play the game.
If Chapman called Epstein and asked for Schwarber and Torres or Almora and Baez for Miller, Epstein would probably think he was smoking crack. Now Miller for two top prospects like Happ and Torres I could see happening because Miller is signed for 2 more years. But no way does Epstein trade two starters for Miller or for anyone pitcher. He didn't get to be the best GM in the game by making stupid moves.

A lot of interest in Miller among MLB leaders

The 34-34 Yankees remain in the thick of the playoff race in the American League, where they sit 5.5 games back of the AL East-leading Orioles and 3.5 games out of a Wild Card position. If the Yankees fall off prior to the Aug. 1 trade deadline and decide to shop elite relievers Aroldis Chapman and Andrew Miller, they’ll garner interest from the Cubs, Nationals, Giants, Dodgers and Rangers, among other potential suitors

It seems to me that the Cubs need to make a serious push for Miller now that he's officially available considering the alternative of him going to the Nationals or Giants which would suck. The Cubs reported that Javier Baez is NOT AVAILABLE nor is Schwarber, Contreras, or Almorra. Gleyber Torres, Eloy Jimenez, Ian Happ, Jeimer Candelario and Mark Zagunis look like more realistic and potential options.

The Cubs were reportedly scouting Miller last week and really do need a quality lefty setup man. It would certainly put them over the top.

I'd be surprised if we acquired any big name/top end bullpen guy. I think we'll get some bullpen help - particularly in middle relief/situational help, but it seems like Theo/Jed are very apprehensive of giving up any of the major prospects.

Perhaps one of the few guys I see us parting with is Vogelbach -- mainly because he's blocked by Rizzo.
