No, I'm excited, thrilled that they drafted him. Will he be ready game "1"? I don't know. Doubtful, especially when you have a "decent" veteran. When he was on Cincinnati, he had 1 receiver and took them into the playoiffs with him. I think the Bears has a better team than when Dalton was on the Bengals. Most people today just look at fantasy stats w/out looking at surrounding talent.
If he starts the season and goes 1-4 / 2-8, you'll be declaring him a bust. I say, give Dalton a chance with a decent team to give Fields and least a few weeks to adjust to the NFL.
I agree with your philosophy, I too want Dalton to give Fields some time to adjust to the NFL Speed and the new playbook. But, Dalton is not the same QB that went to the playoffs. His success will be determined by the O-line and Nagy's play calling.
If Nagy ignores the fact that Dalton is not mobile, and his best strength is getting the ball out quick, we will be in for a long season, or several games.
In order for Dalton to have ANY success, we are going to need a good running game. Nagy has proven over and over again that he is not patient enough, even when it is appropriate or having success.
He panics if he has 2 running plays in a row that do not break away for a huge gain, even if it gains 4-5 yard. And if a running play gets stuffed for no gain or a loss, he is going to throw the ball on the next play. He needs to mature in this aspect of his play calling.
