Not that it matters, but Ross was signed after Lester.

Yeah, Fisch. I heard the same thing. It wasn't announced until after Lester signed but Ross turned down an offer somewhere. Now given his limited skill set, he's not turning down anyone unless he's got something locked up somewhere else....like with his buddy, Lester.

Rizzo said the one guy he leans on on the bench for advice is Ross. The thing is Ross brings things to the team that we as fans will never see. He brings leadership to a young team that has never played games that matter. That is a reason why they went after Lester. He has been there and won it.

There is much that these kids need to absorb from these guys that will never show up in a stat sheet.

Jake Arrieta said on Twitter today his best guy to be around in the clubhouse is David Ross

I think he's a bigger waste of space than Paul Bako was, because at least then they didn't have a better option at backup.

I'm more curious what the plan becomes if Baez develops.

I highly doubt any of our Caribbean players go to Ross for anything. Locker rooms stay pretty split that way. I'm pretty sure Soler still doesn't speak English. At the end of the day, you brought in montero, Lester, and fowler. They can provide a ton of leadership. Ross sucks at the game now. He just does. He is on the team strictly because Lester considers him a safety blanket. Castillo has out performed both our catchers but let's ship out the youngest option.

Come on now. That is borderline racest stuff. That is like saying they get nothing out of Maddon also.

got this:

"It's kind of nice to see an organization have trust in in those players and see the same things that we see," veteran catcher David Ross said. "It's always that question when you're in an organization that has not had a lot of success recently. Are you really trying to win? Are you doing the things on a daily basis that is all about winning, not just about developing players? All I've seen here is full steam ahead. We're going to bring up the guys who are deserving to be Major League players and ready to be Major League players and put that product on the field and learn to win as we go."

Dude is coming from the right place and that is a good message to the fans on how things are changing right now with this team.

Ross may be helping the other pitchers and Castillo though...reference the Arrieta quote for starters. That's why I said I'm on the bandwagon, if they are dead set on shipping out Weli. I will be sad if and when it happens and my personal opinion still is that the signings at catcher this off-season were a mistake with Weli already on the roster. Also, regarding Ross, it looks as if he will make a very good coach as he approaches the end of his playing career.

And that is like saying that Maddon can't talk to them either....

You would think that that a team like the Cubs would have the money to have a few bilingual's around to improve communication...

Like I said. Come on now man. Your theory is hollow.

No, it isnt. Maddon is a coach that will have a translator. They are not going to walk around the clubhouse with a translator to speak to Ross. they would go to Castro or Castillo or someone like that because the communication would be much better. It doesnt mean they dont speak to other teammates, but they arent going to have an in depth convo with Ross like Rizzo can have. The communication is not there. Shit, Renteria was brought in because he was bi lingual and could speak to every individual. It was even brought up by the media. This is no different. People are just trying to sell Ross on the team when there is no reason besides Jon Lester security blanket.

Ross best asset is experience. That isn't enough on the playing field, but often times players seek advice from other players and not coaches. Think of Manny in Iowa last season. He was essentially a player/coach. That is more what Ross is when Lester isn't pitching. It is wasted roster space though. Perhaps once he has some more trust and Lester is in full form, they will place him on waivers and rehire him as part of the coaching staff.

Everything good about Ross can be had whether he plays or not. So make him a coach right now....that would be the obvious move but they're not doing it. They're doing the ass backwards move of keeping three catchers. This front office is too smart for that so I believe this is tied into Schwarber and what they can get for Welly. Possibly waiting to see if the kid pans out defensively...if he does you trade Castillo possibly at the deadline, move Schwarber up and designate Ross for assignment.

Schwarber isn't sniffing Wrigley this season.

Nope and likely next either unless they give up on him as a catcher. Now if after this season he's still hitting well but just isn't becoming what they want behind the plate I think it's very likely he'll be in LF next year. I don't think he's a catcher, but I hope I'm wrong.

Only way Schwarber promotes is if he hits LF. Even then I do not see him getting that promotion unless he tears up AA pitching first. The person I expect getting bumped up from there first is Almora. He already has AB's from last year going and I expect in Iowa soon.
