While I agree that the slut wasn't the best choice of words to use, it is NOT Stern's job to legislate what type of language his players can use on the court. If Kobe wants to call the ref a fa**ot, he's entitled to do so.

In any other job in the world, if you called a fellow employee a fa**ot, your boss will probably tell you not to do that again. He does not have the right to fine you or take a piece of you paycheck away.

true, but their professional athletes, and represent the NBA and should behave to a higher standard, blah, blah, .....Kobe needs to do a better job pretending he's intense, thats all.

He has the right to fire your ass, and in fact should do so unless he wants a workplace discrimination lawsuit against his company. Kobe got off lightly, in the real world he'd have lost the millions left on his contract, not just the 100 grand.

i dont think it's really the amount money that he really cares about...it's just that he got fined for what he said....of course kobe didn't really apologize...but then again i don't really blame him...but ya he should have said something else besides a *** slur and maybe he wouldn't have gotten fined

FTR i'm not a big kobe fan...

People do get fired for that type of shit. All the time. Kobe is the image of the NBA, dude does not need to be going around doing stuff like this.

If it's Aaron Brooks or some bum, I say who cares and move on. But you can't have the face of your league acting like this.

Stern can do whatever he wants, he's the commish. He makes the rights. That is something he deserved to be fined for. Not 100,000 by any means, but a fine is needed. He may not even feel that way, usually the media attention means he HAS to do something regardless of his own personal belief.

He deserved to be fined. Anybody who thinks otherwise is a moron. I do agree $100k is way too much, $10,000 would have been much better.

The NBA player policy specifically dictates what players can and cannot do. Kobe got fined for violating that. If my work had a policy where I could be fined, if it was outlined and made clear to me before I started working, yes, I would 100% abide by it.

Not somebody who has a different opinion than me, somebody who doesn't realize that the face of the entire league shouldn't be acting like a 16 year old.

If you're going to go with the "Kobe has the right to say whatever he wants/freedom of speech" like, then it's instantly negated by the player policy code that Kobe Bryant agreed to.

Player Policy.

If a player doesn't stick to the policy, they can get fined. Derrick Rose can get fined for wearing the wrong wrist-band. If a policy is outlined, you can't complain when you're reprimanded. If you don't agree with the policy and want to be a martyr, there are thousands and thousands and thousands of basketball players out there who would be willing to play for 1/10th of what most players get paid for.

Michael Jordan, Tom Brady, Kobe Bryant walking around calling refs fucking ******s.....great image for their respected leagues.

Regardless of your perception of David Stern, Kobe violated a policy and he was fined for it. If Derrick Rose did the same thing, I would still feel the same way.

Players have the option to play or not to play. Being a multi-millionairre, international icon, and celebrity everywhere you go is the trade-off for not being able to call refs "fucking ****".

I'd LOOOOOOOOVVVVVEEEEEEE to be fined 100,000 if I was making what Kobe is making.

If anything Kobe would look like a jackass doing that. Laker fans could care less about him "standing up" they want him to pay his fine, and go about his play like the rest of the NBA does after a fine.

I don't see what Stern being pounded in the ass has to do with anything. However if that is the highlight of your post, sign Kobe up. He's down with that crowd.

hawkz, kobe is bound to a contract. if part of that LEGAL contract involves NOT saying certain words, he is LEGALLY obligated to avoid those words. it doesnt make stern a dictator. otherwise, you can call nike a dictator for making mj wear only nikes. or, you can call adidas nazis for making drose wear only adidas. drose is under contract with adidas, part of that contract is that he wears ONLY adidas, and they have every right to pull his endorsement if he wont comply. its simple, i dont understand why you dont get it

He may look like a jackass but he will get his message across loud and clear to Stern. Stern doesn't own Kobe, Kobe owns Stern.

Kobe is a competitor. He isn't going to let a fine sideline him.

He isn't that butthurt :lmao:

Calling a ref a "Fucking ***" where multiple news outlets have the video of him saying it on Live TV, that isn't "making up"

C'mon man, you're much smarter then this.

Stern makes up random fines and suspensions whenever he gets his panties in a bunch over something. There is no consistency to his actions. And I'm pretty sure the contract doesn't specify that calling someone a ****** is a fineable offense. The player code is too vague.

The endorsement deals are a completely separate deal and have no impact on this discussion. Nike can't fine MJ for calling Phil Knight a f a g g o t. They can end the deal but they can't fine him.

what, you dont think adidas is suppressing drose's right to express himself by making him wear only adidas? everyone has the right to wear what he wants right?

have you any proof that stern is making it up? a rich guy like kobe can afford the best lawyers to fight for him if he thought stern was making stuff up. if all of sterns fines were really bs, how come no one ever wins?

i'd rather get fined than lose my freaking job. cmon now
