and you know what, kobe is even going to appeal the fine. he even has the right to do that. that doesnt happen under dictatorships
Kobe has the right to say whatever he wants. It's called Freedom of Speech. Nothing in the constitution says anything about possible fines for saying something that offends someone else.
Why does Boozer not get fined everytime he gets a rebound & screams at the top of his lungs "GIMME DAT SHIT!"? I know we've all heard it many times this year. Granted he's not yelling it at a ref but seriously, the only reason Kobe was fined was he was caught blatantly on TV saying it. If TNT didn't stalk after him to try & up the "drama" in the game, this would be a total non-issue. I have heard much worse things said during the course of games. That's not to condone it, but honestly this whole thing is completely blown out of proportion.
Nobody is going to cause a huge stir outside of NBA games and offices because Boozer said shit. Degrading an entire group of people on Live TV is different.
I understand what you're getting at but the situations are a little different. Had Kobe called him a *****, we wouldn't be talking about it. Because he called him a ******, it's a national news story now.
Kobe doesn't know it. That's why he's appealing and that's why didn't even really apologize for it. So you think homosexuals would have stopped watching the NBA if Stern didn't fine him? LMAO c'mon dude. What if Kobe is at a bar and decides to call someone a f a g g ot. Who's going to protect the homosexual community then?
The homosexual community has no pull. They can't even get legalized marriage :lmao: All they do is organize *** pride parades and wear pink shirts and orange bracelets, and yellow polka dot socks. Congrats!
I don't even think he regrets it. He regrets the consequences but I don't think he thinks he did anything wrong. I drop the f a g g g o t word pretty much daily.
Anyone can have a voice. Pull is different than a voice.
While I agree that the slur wasn't the best choice of words to use, it is NOT Stern's job to legislate what type of language his players can use on the court. If Kobe wants to call the ref a fa**ot, he's entitled to do so.
In any other job in the world, if you called a fellow employee a fa**ot, your boss will probably tell you not to do that again. He does not have the right to fine you or take a piece of you paycheck away.
Stern makes up random fines and suspensions whenever he gets his panties in a bunch over something. There is no consistency to his actions. And I'm pretty sure the contract doesn't specify that calling someone a ****** is a fineable offense. The player code is too vague.
The endorsement deals are a completely separate deal and have no impact on this discussion. Nike can't fine MJ for calling Phil Knight a f a g g o t. They can end the deal but they can't fine him.
