Super Glue, and no I'm not kidding.

Thanks Mass.

Ok. I've hear this before. I'm worried because the nail is cracked vertically and there's a chunk taken out and I don't want to get the glue all over my skin, if it drips down in the little crevice. This is so gross.

Dearest Dearest Mule Readers,

It is time that I call on you to help me, your trusty Mule.

How does one fix a broken nail? I mean, really fix it. This is a vertical crack and I don't have very long nails, but it keeps getting worse and worse even after filing it as best I could. Does nail glue really work? Will my nail grow back normally? Should I just rip and out and hope a new, stronger nail grows back in its place? Readers, HELP!

Manicurally Yours,

Mule

My apologies, Muley - this is an area I have absolutely no expertise in, so I have no advice.

I do want to say it made me giggle when I half-read the "Manicurally Yours" as "MANIACALLY YOURS" and just wanted to call attention to it. Best of luck in repairing your phalanges.

Yeah with my limited knowledge of the subject I agree with Mass and think Nail glue is a variant of super glue. Also if it gets on your skin you'd never know it. I think in WW1 they used super glue to help reattach limps or something like that. Liquid Bandage is just super glue with an activator.

The superglue is supposed to be strong enough to hold it together, but flexible enough to move with the wear and tear of life so as to be too rigid and repoen wounds or damage it further. I would suggest though that you try to cover and incapacitate the finger as much as possible. As it heals it will not be strong so any amount of strain or pressure on it will keep the nail apart and prevent it form healing. Usually inadvertent and a lot of times it can happen in your sleep without you knowing it. So just like TCD... wrap it up.

My mother, who prides herself on her nails, uses super glue all the time there.

You can also use it to close all sorts of wounds, skin to skin if needed. At least Krazy Glue, is not toxic, and the Navy Docs always used to carry it with them in the field. I have personally used it to close up cuts "in the field".
