It's really not outdated at all. Alot of teams have gone back to running the 4-3 TAMPA 2 or the 4-2-5 with alot of 2 deep variants.
That defense wasnt the problem and yet would have been a lot more effective if they had the right personnel at the DT positions.
At this point I'm convinced that Billings is better suited as a Hybrid SHADE/NT and Dexter should be a 3-4 DE. Neither one are that true 1GAP quick twitch/burst DT that blow up the interior.
This is exactly why it is borderline idiotic to primarily draft players based on all in one athletic score.
Put a true 3 Technique instead of a long and lungy 3-4DE in the middle of this very defense and you will see a significant difference for the better. The difference will be night and day
Eh not sure I fully agree. Dexter had top 2 DT pressure stats while Billings was playing. It dropped off after Billings went down, but they played well off each other. Bears had no big 1 tech guy to replace Billings that was worth anything once he went down. The issue cascaded across the line.
