Dan Campbell was a Saints asst. Coach.

Campbell is a class act. Would not surprise me if he was helping Johnson with this. Obviously limits to that but he isn’t just going to cry and abandon his friend, it’s not like that in the league. He will try with all his ability to beat him as he should.

Allen has failed as a HC but he was in an impossible situation both times. Kinda impressive he got NO to 9-8 last year with Brees retiring, Payton bolting, and that brutal cap situation there.
Nothing to do with Allen but that cap situation in NO is still one of if not THE worst in the nfl for the Nth year in a row.

Does BJ have a saints connection? Why all the saints guys?

Aka is this related to Trae Armstrong??

It could easily just be that he has a connection to Dennis Allen and Allen is telling him to hire his old ST coach.

Is Saleh going to get a DC this year?

I haven't heard his name out there at all
I thought I heard something about him getting interviewed by Jax for the HC opening. It was in the background so I'm possibly wrong

Could be other way around. Rizzi and Johnson know each other from their Dolphin days. Rizzi may have put Johnson and Allen in contact. Allen's name may have just leaked first because DC is a bigger deal than ST Coach.

Scheme

Allen’s defensive philosophy is rooted in the traditional 4-3 side of things. His base is that of closed-post coverage though Tampa and Quarters are utilized as he sees fit. Dime, Nickel, 4-2-5, 3-3-5, you name it, Allen’s likely tried it.

Allen’s influence and prioritization of versatility among the defensive backfield is evident when you pop the hood. Defensive backs in Allen’s scheme are required to do it all:

  • change picture post-snap (late rotations, disguises, etc.)
  • man coverage strengths
  • hook defender at safety
  • deep half principles
  • backfield vision in zone
  • blitz ability

Defenses under Allen are vast in their ability to show multiple fronts and coverages off of them. He’s also shown a strong ability to take advantage of mismatches based on personnel. Below is a fantastic example of Allen’s multiple scheme at work.

Gordon is going to be a huge piece of his defense. I wonder how much less is he going to use Edmunds as the yeah goes on. I think safety moved up the needs list a good bit too. I don’t think that Brisker has much left with all of his concussions and Byard is old and the depth isn’t good and lacks potential

Byard was pretty good imo and he only has one year left. But yeah, I would expect to draft a Safety bc Brisker’s brain is mush

The unfortunate thing about keeping Poles is that we will likely have to put up with Edmunds for a couple more years. Had Poles gotten fired, he could/should have be cut. Such a waste of money.

It makes no sense to cut him this year, his dead cap hit is pretty high if I’m not mistaken. Poles hasn’t shown that he’s a guy to double down on stupid decisions—he did cut bait with Claypool—so I think Edmunds plays this year and doesn’t make it to 2026

The good thing is the Bears have physical CBs that fit the positional flexibility and disguises Allen likes. Gordon, Smith and Stevenson are all good enough in the run game that you can cross train them at S and then be able to deploy them all over the field to confuse the offense.

One thing I’ve read up on Dennis Allen is that he’s a low energy guy. Not the rah rah testosterone pull your pants down type.

Something else that Dennis Allen’s defenses are known for at this point is his ability to get his unit off the field on money downs (aka 3rd/4th down).

Yes , 1,000
