Kukoc and grant were never the best in the league at certain facets of basketball. They contributed, but never had the role in the league that rodman did. And rodman helped the bulls become a cultural icon of the 90s.

You don't retire Rodman's number with the Bulls because of his "role in the league"...whatever the heck that was...he was weird...that was his role. I don't see the point of rewarding that with such a prestigious honor.

Rodman didn't leave the Pistons under the best terms...His number definately should be retired in Chicago too..3 rings in chicago compared to 2 in Detroit.

:troll:
I agree with this. No one is going to wear the number anyway, might as well retire it.

He helped win 3 titles here and went from hated villain, to beloved hero in 3 seasons. Plus he's a hall of famer, which should automatically garner such a reward.

So I wonder what he thinks of all the number that the Celtics and the Yankees have retired? Are those diluted also?

Dennis deserves it, so does Kukoc and Grant. That's not too many. I'd also honor Norm Van Lier with it also, seeing as his back court mate Jerry Sloan is already up there.

I should say his status in the league. He was redarded as one of the best PFs in the league.

I actually agree with you. But I was trying to see it from his POV.

One of my favorite players of all-time. I once waited 3 hours in line to get his autograph.

His number shouldn't be retired by the Bulls though. Too many numbers deserve to be retired before his. Dennis is a HOFer and his #10 rightfully retired in Detroit. He was not with the Bulls long enough for his #91 to be retired. It might be different if he led the Bulls to titles and/or was a perennial all-star during his 3 years here. But that isn't the case.

Stormin Norman definately deserves to be in the hall of fame as a player and dedicated broadcaster....

Well his point of view is "He's right, you're wrong"

That's really all you need to know.

Rodman was great for the Bulls. He embraced Chicago, despite all the past dealings when he was playing for Detroit and we embraced him right back. He was a major factor in us winning. I loved Grant as a Bull, but the way he left just doesn't sit well with me. I was there when he celebrated after Orlando beat us in the playoffs. Still haven't forgotten it.

Rodman deserves the honor. Anyone that says different is a basketball Special person.

Screw it...just retire all those guys' numbers. Walker, Grant, Van Lier, Rodman...the whole lot of them. They all deserve it in one way or another.

Yep. I miss him. And red kerr. Van lier was funny but candid. It seems like he always said what was on my mind. Listening to him was like therapy during some of those down bulls years.

Don't agree with this.

There are too many people who deserve it more/as much:

Kukoc
Grant
Gilmore
Deng
Hinrich
Armstrong
Van Lier
Paxson

Are we supposed to retire all of their numbers too? The U.C. rafters would be a laughing stock compared to the Boston T.D. Garden or Staples Center.

Well when we have as many stars come here as LA or Boston, then you can call us a laughingstock.

That said, I wouldn't mind having Gilmore, Grant, Van Lier, Kukoc, and Rodman's number retired. They've all done great things here in Chicago.

There are too many people who deserve it more/as much:

Kukoc Yes
Grant Yes
Gilmore Yes
Deng Still playing and no
Hinrich You can make a case, but I wouldn't
Armstrong (Can't number is already retired under Bob Love)
Van Lier Yes
Paxson (I can go with that one. I always felt uneasy watching someone else wear #5)
Are we supposed to retire all of their numbers too? The U.C. rafters would be a laughing stock compared to the Boston T.D. Garden or Staples Center.
So, we are not supposed to honor players that played great for us?

Current numbers retired: 4, 10, 23, 33

Numbers that should be or deserve to be: 2, 7, 53, 54, 91

That would be a total of 9 players with retired numbers. Hardly a laughing stock, considering that Gilmore and Rodman are in the Hall, Kukoc was a great player for the Bulls and so was Grant. I don't think or care what other people think about it. This is about honoring great Bulls of the past.

I don't see what the problem is.

How about they get on a HoF ballot first, then we consider retiring them.

Rodman and Gilmore are in the Hall of Fame.

And they don't all have to be in the Hall to have been great players for the Bulls.

To me, it lessens what it means to have your jersey retired by the Chicago Bulls if retire a player who only played for your team for three seasons.

Rodman should have no gripe with the Bulls even if he doesn't get his number retired. The guy was a pop culture sensation because of his presence on the team. This guy was an AMAZING rebounder and defensive player. But he was not a top tier player in the NBA at that point. This was a guy who also got suspended his 2nd year with the Bulls and played pretty inconsistently nearing the end of the 1998 season/playoffs.

We need some Grant appreciation threads and Norm Van Lier appreciation threads before Rodman ones. The reason Rodman's was on here first is simply because he is more recent (so more people are familiar with him) and the fact that he was a LOT more popular. Hell, he was more popular than Pippen with a lot of people.

Rodman would be the exception and not the rule. His contributions warrant such an honor.

That is true, but still I would honor him, especially since he made the Hall and won his most titles here.

You should start those threads. Dennis was a beloved part of those teams and Grant went out like a punk here with the celebrating on our floor. He kinda wrote his own check with that shit. To me, he was no longer a Bull.
