The sad thing is is that if he takes even the slightest step back people are going to be all over him. People are already trying detract from his success by saying that it only came against teams that are crap. 38 and 7 against the Lakers takes some skill, regardless of the situation. It's not like he's just chucking either like JL3 when he scored 25, he's shooting well over 50% from the field.

Let's see

Lin lit up the Nets (worst defense in the league),

the Wizards (one of the worst defenses),

the Jazz (22nd/30 in defense),

and the Lakers (the elderly Lakers who played an OT game the night before. And who was guarding Lin - the elderly Derek Fisher and the liability on D known as Steve Blake).

It's still the NBA, they are all Pro's on the floor! It's not like he was playing against a high school defense. He has some skills!

I like the kid but stringing together some good games doesn't mean you warrant superstar treatment. The main reason he is getting such attention is because he is Asian.

I wouldn't say it's because he is asian. He could be another nationality, so long as his name is easy to come up with nicknames, such as Lin's. He has a great story, and I think that is what most people love, above all.

No, it's because it's the Knicks. His ethnicity & background story are just a bonus. This would be a huge story regardless.

Lin is a skilled player, but I'm reserving full judgement on him until I can see how well he plays with his 2 star teammates, who will demand 75% of the touches, & how well he will play when teams specifically gameplan for him.

I already dislike him more than Tebow because of all this #Linning crap. The media sure knows how to ruin how fans view up and coming athletes.

Damn, Yellow Mamba is destroying Ricky Rubio head-to-head. His penetration is unstoppable, almost as good at Derrick's. 15 pts 4 asts 7-11 FG in the 1st half.

As much as I hate over-hyping & catch phrasing of athletes, this is a pretty LINcredible story. :troll:

who cares about what the media says if the media as a influence your view of a player that is sad IMO. But then again I dont watch SC ever and could care less what the "experts" say about a player on SC. SC is to get ratings not to talk about games and break them down and what not.

taking a team starting Jared Jefferies and Bill Walker and leading them to 5-0 is impressive no matter how you slice it.

Watchu got against Asians Rami? :shifty:

Imo it's more about how he came from being a nobody in the NBA to a guy who's really showed his stuff out there. Who would've ever thought that a team without Amare or Melo would win any games with this guy starting, let alone this stretch of averaging like 25 and 8. Combine this with the fact that he's the first Asian American ever to play in the NBA and yeah you're going to get some recognition. Add to that the fact that the Knicks have yet to lose with him playing big minutes and the fact that he is open about his faith and there's your Tebow comparison. Imo the difference between him and Tebow is that you can't deny that he's the reason the team is winning or his skill level.

And of course he's going to get international recognition from being Asian, that's just how it is. There's too many Asians out there for it not to happen. There's such a negative stereotype out there about Asians (and especially those regarding athletics) already so it's nice seeing someone buck the trend. Rubio is/has been getting a heck of a lot of hype as well, so it's not like only Asians get recognition or anything like that.

Lin is a lot like Tebow in the sense that they (a) are both being/have been overhyped by the media, (b) because Lin is a bad long-range shooter for his position and Tebow was a bad passer for his position, and (c) Lin and Tebow are both great at driving/running for their positions.

Flip Murray did the same thing Jeremy Lin is doing for an entire month when Ray Allen was injured for Seattle back in 2003. Sportscenter didn't hype it up though - perhaps because of their notorious east coast bias (Knicks' player). Him being an Asian player also plays a major role. And also that he is a Harvard graduate.

I do feel great for the guy though. Hard work pays off.

Yeah there's a good amount of guards who can't shoot 3s either and have still been successful. Andre Miller, Ramon Sessions for a bit. Heck Rose couldn't shoot when he came into the league...neither could Jason Kidd.

Yeah he's being extremely overhyped, but that's not his problem, it's ESPN and all the other media outlets out there. Him being Asian is probably like 90% of the reason he's getting the hype in the first place. Being the first Asian American player in the NBA will do that. He got a little bit of attention a year ago when he played well against John Wall in summer league and when he was in GS always got a ton of cheers from the crowd when he played. Imo he's done nothing to warrant anything but praise at this point. It can go both ways though. If he for whatever reason falls off a cliff for a bit people are going to write him off faster than you can say Linsanity.
