You will never find a person more devoted to the idea that education is always good, but why do we insist on people whose only goal is professional sports go to college? Removing that would solve a lot of the problems in this you need to be amateur *wink* *wink* system we have right now.
hard to say, for a while in the 90s and 2000s you saw alot of great basketball players skip college and go to the pros immediately since they had the ability to do that and had their sights on getting paid professionally and not having to make a stop..
some ended up successful(lebron, kobe, garnett, mcgrady, howard) quite a few didnt(kwame brown, sebastian telfair, eddy curry, etc.) partly because you dont really learn discipline in high school and AAU nor do you really learn how to polish your skills(also i,myself, still advocate guys who have no college interest just skip)
of course, you cant necessarily compare football and basketball directly, but the information above was illustrating what we have seen as a result of your kind of thinking(doesnt mean im going against your argument...because frankly i see there being alot of pros from players skipping college as well as cons)
in football's case, i think its much much too hard to completely skip college and go to the pros directly from high school. Frankly, the game is not built like basketball where you have guys who are seniors in high school who are developed enough to be on an NBA and significantly contribute.
But some kind of supplemental league(maybe UFL,CFL, possibly) would not be a terrible solution for players who are looking at making money rather than playing for a school..
