I'll do it when they can eliminate the need for reading glasses.

I had Lasik done about 12 years ago. Always had problems with contacts, (dry eyes, infections). Had the Lasik done. Procedure took 15 minutes and was painless.

I was nearsighted like 350/20 and went to 20/20. It's great not having to deal with glasses or contacts. The only disadvantage is for people around 40 they usually will need reading glasses after Lasik. At some point everyone needs reading glasses but with Lasik it's just sooner

If you don't mind me asking, how much did it cost? I've seen prices vary like crazy from cheap to pricey. cause I don't wanna go to a shady doctor for something like this.

Yup, around 40 is when the little type started getting fuzzy.

No prescription eye wear yet though... just a pair of Walgreens +1.00 cheater glasses to top off the daily eye strain from work.

That's exactly it. I had Lasik done about 13 years ago and after about 5 years, I was back in glasses. Didn't want to go back to contacts, older and just didn't care how I looked as much.
I know cataracts has something to due with my vision worsening too. Right after the Lasik things were great for a hile. Finally got to wear shades, no contacts to dick with every morning and night. Just didn't last that long unfortunately...
Even to this day, my eyes are a little better without glasses then prior to Lasik. I don't wear glasses at all when I'm on the computer. Just for TV, driving, I guess anytime I leave the house.

I dont get the prices. 13 years ago I paid $2400 for both eyes, but I knew some people were paying $4000 per pair. Recently, I heard people were still paying $4000 which doesnt make sense. I know that the technology has changed a few times and that these machines tend to cost hundreds of thousands of dollars but I wouls have thought the prices would have come down dramatically

The guy I picked is in Schaumburg (Lasik Plus) and does about 10 operations a day. It's a total factory but I dont see that as a bad thing. To be honest I want a guy that is cranking these out and has done 10,000 successful operations. Not so sure I want a guy doing 1 every other day

My wife had LASIK done about 8 years ago and is now starting to wear glasses again. The father in law is an optometrist and swears no one should do these things as they're not allowed to do these procedures in actual hospitals due to insurance purposes and such. Now take that with a grain of salt as it's one persons opinion but also another persons personal experience with the procedure.

I've been wearing contacts since Junior year of High School (had them since sophomore year but didn't start regularly wearing them until I realized not being able to read the large digital clock from 10 feet away in the hall ways was an issue).

To be blatantly honest, I sleep in mine and don't change them very often, as in maybe every month or two. I've read how this is supposedly "terrible for you're eyes" but I've only once or twice had issues with my cornea being scratched.

I'm lazy.

Awesome thanks. If I get it, I'll call the guy in Schaumburg first.

Wont happen. Lasik corrects on or the other but cant correct for both. Impossible

That's not true at all. If you're both hyper and myopic it simply means you have an astigmatism. The LASIK can correct an astigmatism. LASIK corrects the curvature of the cornea to correct refractive error.

The post-40 prescription changes have to do with a lens LASIK doesn't even treat. LASIK lasts like 10-12 years regardless of age.

If you have Lasik, you cannot correct nearsightness and still be able to read a business card after 40 years age.

I had Lasik 13 years ago and have noticed no deterioration in sight

Contacts are not a big deal. The way some of you whine you should turn in your Man card.

That's not true. Everyone has different tolerance to contacts. My friend has been wearing hard contacts since the mid 70s with no issues. Some people can leave soft ones in their eyes for 4 weeks. I struggled to get a full day out of the highest water content soft contacts. I had constant infections for years and had to use boric acid to clear up those infections

I know but I wanted to be a dick. I'm lucky how good contacts work for me.

-5 in both eyes. Contacts for about 15 years. Used to never take them out. Then I got sore from where the contact was digging into my eye, so now I take them out every night. Take care of your skull testicles, children.

Yes. Unfortunately I need multi-focals and they tear too easily when I take them out. I will use distance only at this point (and previous to needing bifocals. The single vision work fine, but it's ridiculous trying to read stuff when I forget my readers. I just wear glasses, none of which are bi-focals and take them off when I need to read something up close. Old eyes are a PITA, but if you have a choice between contacts and glasses, I'd give the contacts a shot. Some people are set up with the distance vision in one eye and the reader in the other eye, but that screws with my depth perception trying to catch balls. That method didn't work for me. Lots of options. Give them a try.
