Hey, hey. Eat a dick.

I'm allowed to bash. I've paid off two Dodge's and I won't be making that mistake again any time soon.

A Dodge DieNasty and a Dodge RAM (Which should have been named Dodge RBM for "Replace Brakes Monthly".)

So there.

Power to weight ratio is not even close between any VW and a Charger. A Charger R/T (at least the first gen re-make 05-08) is like 4400 lbs dishing out 340HP 390 lb.-ft. torque. Its only decently quick because of that 345 cubic inch engine but for all intent and purpose its a flying brick. I know this because I drive one.

I don't give a **** if anyone believes me. He was the one who wanted to race and I got him by two car lengths pretty quickly.

Anyone who says "stage x" is a ******, sorry.

Stages are packages sold by third parties, and they mean nothing to me either. Two(or more) companies can sell a full performance kit, break them down into stage packages, and you could have completely different results.

I'll second you, my first car was a 73' Challenger...wish I had kept it as an investment but unloaded cuz' I couldn't keep it running.

My second Mopar was a fully loaded Dakota, which I unloaded at 35K mileage for the same reason...the dealership couldn't keep it running and warranty was about to expire.

As for the that new Dodge, sticker price is 60K. For that, you could buy 3 or 4 vintage muscle cars. I'm eyeballing a 72' Olds 442 right now, a gear-head wants 15K for it...has a re-built 455 along with numerous other modifications.

It's a reflash of the ecu, that's all. Mine is by APR and adds about 40 hp and I forget how many pound feet of torque. Stage 2 is a downpipe and another reflash. GTIs are highly modifiable if you are into that.

The 318 is one of the most reliable v8s I have ever owned. Funny how the 340 isn't, and how easy it is to crack a 440 block. 426s are strictly for enthusiasts IMO, because they're also not very reliable. I kind of wish I had swapped a tuned 318 into my 71 challenger when I had it, but then again, that is more work than I wanted, and would kill resale on a good investment.

That's because the people who sell them are desperately trying to recoup the cost of ownership. Matt will tell you, what does BOAT stand for? Yep, same applies to muscle cars.

Correct...and they sell for a whole lot more than 15K..Thats my point..If someone can get 3-4 muscle cars for 60K, they must be junk

Naturally a brand new Challenger with a 700 HP engine and warranty is going to cost a whole lot more than some 1972 challenger thats up on milk crates with a rod sticking thru the engine block, and dripping trans fluid all over the driveway

Get that same 72 challenger completely restored in the same shape as a new hellcat, and it will cost 60 at the very least

Here is a restored 70 challenger for a mere 129K...you can get 2 hellcats for that

The reason to do your own restoration or retromod, is because you find it entertaining to work with the car. It's not for everyone.

I agree as I have done two

But this is a whole different discussion than the point I was trying to make in regards to Sunbiz's post

Why would anyone by a Dodge Charger or Challenger thinking they were slalom racers? That's just plain dumb. The appeal is that they are American muscle cars. Big engines, sound nasty and can lay rubber. Chicks dig it. I'd buy one. Those of you who don't like them can suck goats.

You can turn a Charger into a very well handling car if you are willing to drop a good chunk of change into replacing all the bushings and redoing the front end and suspension but other than that they really are only drift racing cars at best. I am sitting here laughing at the guy driving a freakin Golf GTI thinking he's hot shit because he beat a stock morbidly obese car.

I'm at the point where people get mad at me because I WON'T race them. It is usually some idiot in some Civic that is lowered and smoking and sounds like it is about to blow up. V8 guys get pissed too. I really have no interest in racing your stock Corvette. People get pissed. I actually had someone in a C5 Vette pull up next to me (after doing flyby) and say "You aren't in the same class as me". I replied, "You are right, I make about 400 more horsepower than you".

It all depends on what car. A classic GTO convertible will run 50K, but an old Cutlass w/the very reliable 350 can be had for well under 20K.

http://www.volocars.com/1967-oldsmobile-cutlass--c-4957.htm#sthash.xDQRAfAw.dpbs

Just one example, knock off 2-3K from private owners.

I agree...but that Cutlass isnt in the same league as that new Challenger Hellcat...The motor alone in that car would cost 30K to build at a speed shop..Plus, a Cutlass with a plain jane 350 wouldnt be considered a muscle car IMO
