Does anyone else feel disappointed about this season, but also calm about the team getting better quick?

At the beginning of the year I had thought we would be a 7-10 win team, with hopes of sneaking into the playoffs.

This year has been an obvious disappointment. In a normal 4 win season, I would normally be ready for a massive rebuild. But I think all that is needed is a legit head coach, and whoever the GM is going to be, to put resources into OLine and Dline.

I also think because of our horrific coaching season that our record doesn't reflect the talent on the field. I thought our peak would be 10 wins because of the possibility of Caleb having a Stroud type year and Eberflus actually knowing how to coach. But because Eberflus was horrific in late game managament and a rookie QB being a rookie, things were much worse than the 7 win floor I thought the team had.

But because we have a quarterback, I don't really see us in a dire situation. This is feeling I am not used to because we have a quarterback. Does he still have holes? Yes, he holds the ball too long looking for the home run, but I like that about him and I think he will learn to process faster and learn to take what is given to him more often.

When it comes to coaching, I don't think you can do much worse than Eberflus, especially with the top candidates out there. Without getting into debates on who that is, I think it is a win win if they choose one of Ben Johnson or Vrabel.

I’ve lived to many of the “wait until next year” season to have any type of hope left. If it happens great but I’m not getting excited for anything until I see it actually work. Even then can we get 3 years in a row of success? That’s what it will take for me to believe in them again.

Unfortunately, I keep hoping for this, but the McCaskeys manage to kill that hope every year. They are, without doubt, the worst owners in pro sports. I wouldn’t trust them running an ice cream truck without screwing it up.

Poles had the choice of multiple talented HCs available last year and couldn't be bothered to make a call.
Poles had 3 years to fix the O-line and D-line and it's as bad or worse than when he started.

Why the ******* should I have hope he could fix those things?

I witnessed the last Super Bowl this franchise won. Ever since they have done the same thing over and over, I have no confidence in the ownership and the vision they have for this franchise. I have offered to fix it and have not received a call. So it looks to be business as usual.

It's going to depend on whether or not the Bears get the right head coach and whether or not they replace Ryan poles.

If the rumors of a Ben Johnson and Agnew pairing are true, I think this thing gets better really quickly and the Bears are contending in the playoffs next year.

I think it's a typical "Bears fan thing" to think we just need a new HC, and things will be much better.

It's not a given that CW gets better. I remember when Mitchell Trubisky was going to turn the corner and he actually REGRESSED in 2019.

It's not a given we're hiring a good coach, nor is it that we'll draft good linemen.

And nobody said that all we need is a new hc. At all. Did your delusions and vendetta against bear fans begin when chopperhouse peed in your butt in cell block d showers?

Different situation. Trubisky was horrible last 6 or so games in ‘18. Absolutely no reason to think he was trending upwards when that season ended.

Mitch never had the flashes or arm talent that caleb is showing.

He's at minimum going to be a jay cutler level Quarterback

My main worry is if poles can draft/sign good OL. The path to "fix" this team is pretty simple cause the skill guys are pretty decent, its just both sides of the trenches that lack depth or already have poor starters. With 82m in cap(and more after cuts) plus 4 picks in the top 75 you'd expect the OL and DL issues to be relatively fixed in an offseason.

Yeah thats kind of what I was thinking as well, similar production but for different reasons. With Cutler he had a great arm and just thought he could always fit it in to tight widows and he made some crazy WOW throws, but also lots of INT.
CW also has a lot of WOW throws but think his INT will start to rack up because of his erratic accuracy rather then trying to force a throw into a tight window.

No - the fact they chose Waldron shows how stupid they are. The only hope is Poles is fired and we luck in to a good GM. We'll know if the GM is good right away. One stupid mistake and we know he sucks.

I believe this team underachieved.

I am not surprised by that, however. It's practically a tradition.

I refuse to get my hopes up.

When Nagy left I figured that just about anyone else could coach more competently, and we would at least be competing for a playoff spot towards the end of most years. Turns our they've mastered the art of hiring frauds, so I'll just assume that the next coach will be some asshole nobody has ever heard of that knows how to gladhand.

Agreed. I think the path to being competitive is a relatively straight line = fire Poles, hire a new GM who brings in Ben Johnson and the team then invests in the OL and DL. The question is, will the Bears actually do those things? The history of the organization says no.
