For those of us who work downtown.... what are your favorite lunch spots?

I get sick of alot of the lunch spots I frequent with my co-worker, we had been going to the Urban Market Cafe thing in the Chase building but I got sick of the soup and their other food is often expensive.... got a good corned beef sandwich with fries and a drink but it ran me 10$+ which is pricey on a consistent basis.

Lately we have been hitting up Roly Poly and Subway alot.... anyone got recommendations?

In River North, used to go to:

Subway, Chipotle, Eggsperience, Rock Bottom, Quartino, occasionally Sable, Cantina Laredo, Einstein Bros Bagels or NY Bagel Co. Also India House before it relocated.

Then I realized all the food was kind of shitty (except for Quartino) and I was spending a lot of money so now I bring my lunch (kale and carrotz -- and walnuts, cheese, tomatoes, and onions) every day.

When I want to **** with people I work with and don't like, I invite them to my upcoming birthday party at Tropical Rain Forest Cafe, lol.

Roti for decent Mediterranean fast casual is right around the corner on Washington/Dearborn. Vapiano on Monroe/Wabash is great fresh pasta and pizza. Rosebud has a great burger, last time I was there, dine in lunch it was 5 bux with a drink purchase. Those are all worthwhile to check out.

Their chorizo and jalapeño omelette was pretty good, but I don't go out to eat any more unless someone at work is picking up the tab

I'll have my chorizo and jalapeño in a tortilla like God intended. You can wrap your eggs around anything you want.

I recommend going to Mastro's. You might see Jay Cutler climbing some stairs (or the ladder)

I think you're out of luck, jester. No Mastro's in BloNo, and they require shirt and shoes (and pants)

Other than making it myself, it's the closest thing to "plate lunch" I have had since moving out of Hawaii. Just somewhere out of the ordinary that I frequent. Hawaiian food is pretty simple, but impossible to find outside of the islands. Most people think Hawaiian food is pineapple, but you would be hard pressed to go to Hawaii and get anything with pineapple at a restaurant, other than juice and places that specifically target tourists to sell them on the misconceptions they already have.

http://www.alohaeats.com/menu.htm

You have to ask for cold rice, because they serve it hot(which is not authentic at all). Also, this place serves Hawaiian style Mac Salad, not the same as what you typically find outside of Hawaii.

Oh, and if you have White-Castle stomach(a term I'm making up for people who have stomach pains after eating white castle), you might want to ignore my recommendation. It comes from soy-based-oil content used for cooking(which also may explain something to a few people here.) LOL I get a mild cramp, but I'll still eat it on occasion for nostalgic purposes, and in a cold winter, eating a plate lunch trips me out. =)

Chicken Katsu, Loco Moco are the mainlander recommendations. I wish they had hawaiian style orange chicken and jumbo gyoza. But then they would have to maintain a menu that would be harder to succeed with in Chicago.

after all of this explanation i wonder if the food is any good...

I've never visited Hawaii and I've heard nothing but great things about the tropical paradise that it is, and I really do like most Japanese food, but Brown Gravy? Spam?

Zoup, Cafecito, Epic Burger, Halo Asian Mix (also has Hawaiian food along with good Thai food, can't beat the $5 crazy noodles), Oasis Cafe (best Mediterranean food in the loop), Max's Take Out, Fontanos, Chick fil a.

shit, i forgot that i go to chick fil a at least once a month.

I'll have to try out Halo Asian Mix one of these days.

Seriously no one goes to Roti? It's like a Mediterranean Chipotle and it's super healthy and filling. You just have to go outside of normal lunch hour to avoid the douchebag rush.
