Thats the reason I will be watching because there is no reason we should have a .712 which is real close to Jacksonville's .718 at the moment.

Does this metric take out the ST TD and fumble return for a TD from the defense?

Even with peppers sitting most of the game, the dline got pressure on ponder, but he scrambled a lot and juked our crappy linebackers. I'm tired of hearing about the dline , they are not the problem at all.

This would be inaccurate! The dline is the biggest reason that the defense has looked average.

The Stats are based on actual drives meaning a series not a one play score when the defense isn't actually on the field.

This.

The D line has been shockingly bad so far. And 18% of the entire teams cap is dedicated to 2 D-lineman with zero sacks, zero pressures and 5 total tackles to this point. I expect both to pick up the pace considerably, and that would improve the defensive DSR. I don't think that is on Tucker, as these guys didn't suddenly forget how to play their position. That said, it is his job to get these guys doing what they are capable of.

Lovie recruited Peppers, and would always ride Melton and get him motivated. Perhaps it is the D-line most unhappy about the departure of Lovie/Marinelli. They were treated like important kings in that regime.

FWIW doesn't our system funnel players towards Briggs' side of the field making him a tackle machine? I would presume anyone that gets that many opportunities to make tackles is also going to miss some.

The reason the defense has sucked so far is because they are not getting off the field on third downs.

The amount of plays per drive in 2012 was 5.43 which was #3 overall
The amount of plays per drive in 2013 is 6.37 which is #26 overall

The time of possession per drive in 2012 was 2:22 which was #2 overall
The time of possession per drive in 2013 is 3:01 which is #29 overall

The only reason the defense isn't at the very bottom of the league right now is because the Bears are #1 in turnovers per drive .263, Actually better than they were in 2012 at .208 which was #2 behind Houston 2.15

The D-Line obviously has to get more pressure but the Bears also need to play better overall.

Jon Hoke was left over from the Lovie era and has probably been valuable to Mel Tucker as far as what Lovie used to do in certain situations. I don't think Mel Tucker has done a bad job as much as the D-line hasn't generated the same pressure. Makes you think how good Marinelli was. The good thing is we are still generating takeaways at a really good rate. Hopefully the D-line picks it up, then we will be something really special I think.

I dont think production has as much to do with Marinelli this year as it has to do with injuries illness and poor play...

I think the D-line will bounce back soon...

I am concerned about the lack of pressure by the D-line. I liked what the starting D did is preseason, and I was actually buying into Tucker, but in the two regular season games so far it seems like Tucker has gotten much more conservative. There appeared to be a lot more press man and creative blitzing during the preseason. Of course the D-line was also creating pressure in the preseason.

On the bright side...The O is currently ranked 14th, which while nothing spectacular in and of itself is a vast improvement. And it should only get better. Hell, would be better if it weren't for stupid turnovers.

When Lovie/Marinelli left, they did not take the knowledge they had given the D line. So it has to be something, I'll go along with this theory until I hear a better one.

I'm also willing to give them a bit of a pass because of the Bengals O line and the Vikes running game. This week against the Steelers will tell us everything we need to know about the Bears pass rush, or lack thereof. No excuses tomorrow night.

A agree with all that but just wanted to say that last years D had one of those special years and played above their heads. They still aren't breaking too often this year and like you said, it's too early to know where they're at. Looks like both sides should still see improvement.

FO had the 2011, and 2010 Bears D rated as 4 and last year 1. Going from 4 to 1 isn't that crazy.

You are fucking pathetic. The dline is going to rape the steelers. Those stupid numbers don't mean anything until week 12 at least. Line backers are the most at fault for the average defense we see, as opposed to the #1 defense we have grown accustomed to the last 8 years.

When you said after analysis, wut did you mean?

In 2012 these were the AVERAGE Offensive drive stats across the league
Yds/DrPts/DrTOs/DrINT/DrFUM/DrLOS/DrPlays/DrTOP/DrDSRTDs/DrFG/DrPunts/Dr3Outs/DrLOS/KOTD/FGPts/RZTDs/RZAvg. Lead
30.731.84.129.081.04827.535.802:39.687.200.147.422.23422.151.374.78.545-1.14

In 2013 The Bears have averaged...
Yds/DrPts/DrTOs/DrINT/DrFUM/DrLOS/DrPlays/DrTOP/DrDSRTDs/DrFG/DrPunts/Dr3Outs/DrLOS/KOTD/FGPts/RZTDs/RZAvg. Lead
33.182.18.227.136.09134.365.822:49.719.273.091.364.22733.823.005.43.714-1.182

In other words the 2013 Bears have been above average for ALL 2012 teams in:
Yards, Points, Field Position, Plays From Scrimmage, Time Of Possesion, Drive Success Rate, Scoring, Red Zone Efficiency, Fewer Punts and Fewer 3 and outs.

I know its only two games but after watching the Marc Trestman offense and Kromer offensive line, that takes advantage of Phil Emery's added new talent, I have zero doubt they will remain above average.

My personal analysis says if anything this offense will only get better.

Tucker is already suspect IMO, but lets wait and see what shakes out during the rest of the season

I'm not sure about giving him a whole season. I think after the first quarter or four defensive games his destiny should be sealed.

We should beg, bargain, and steal back Rod M

-------
I think to make any D above average you have to have a very good Dline.

AND to make any O above average the same applies to the O. You need a good Oline.

Its an absolute necessity. Championships are built thru the Lines D & O
