My favorite teams
  1. Chicago Cubs
  1. Minnesota United FC
  1. Chicago Bulls
  1. Chicago Bears
  1. Chicago Blackhawks
  1. Notre Dame Fighting Irish
So Sedin had clear intent? Common.

You can say Keith did but not Sedin.
I don't think it's out of the realm of possibility for Sedin to lay a dirty hit on Keith.

5 games is too much due to inconsistency. That's all. Doan is the most recent example, but there are others. A first time offender getting 5 for that hit is just too much given the way Shanahan has judged in the past. I do believe he folded from outside pressure (Canadian press or otherwise), hence the change in type of hearing.

Also, the "intent to injure" and the "Sedin is out indefinitely with concussion symptoms" is real risky business. Intent to injure on a hit is silly. If someone swings their stick like a baseball bat and hits someone in the mouth, that is real clear intent to injure. A shoulder to the jaw while the puck is in the air? Possibly intent to injure but it's easily debatable and therefore shouldn't be used to determine punishment. It's assuming a players thought process in an incredibly fast game where players make split second decisions. It's a stupid thing to do.

And Sedin's injury? If his jaw is broken and a time table for the injury is known- that's fine. Use that time against Keith. A head injury that hasn't been fully diagnosed where we have NO IDEA how long Sedin will be out? That's risky. It's not completely wrong, but it's risky. That's all I'll say. He could be out for a year or he could be back after 4 games of rest. Nobody knows. If you don't know, it's really hard to figure that into a punishment length.

BUT

Moving on...

5 games right now taking into account the Hawks current situation? Who fucking cares. Consider it a blessing. Everyone says Keith plays too many minutes. His minutes have decreased since the arrival of Oduya and the suddenly defense is playing it's best hockey. A 5 game rest for an ironman before the playoffs is good.

And if the team loses a few with Keith out of the lineup and locks in the 6th seed- is anyone here going to complain? Would we really be so upset if Detroit and Nashville took each other out in the first round?

It's fine. I think a 3 game suspension would have been much more reasonable, but it ended up being 5. It's a 2 game difference and it gives Keith a rest.

I'm done being interested in the situation. It was fun.

Oh wait, one last thing.

Someone on the Hawks landed a cheap shot on the Canucks leading scorer.

I like that.

Keith had clear intent, Sedin did not.
Keith's first point of contact was the head, Sedin's was not.
Keith led w/ the elbow, Sedin did not.
Keth hit Sedin when the puck wasn't in play for Sedin, Sedin hit Keith after his pass.

There are so many more things wrong w/ Keith's hit than Sedin's.

Go ahead and post other hits from this year if you want, but Keith deserved this one from Shanahan.

we dont know for sure since we werent on the ice. do you honestly believe the canucks chatter on the ice that keith said he was going to do it? look at the source, they are cry babies.

bold 2- i dont know what video you were watching. CLEARLY shows shoulder to the head without any regard.

Refs also confirmed the threat. Sedin could have had intent...who knows. However, I think Keith's was pretty clear.

Sedin's first point of contact was not the head, his follow throuh was.

I'm trying to imagine the tables being turned.

Keith getting a lick on Sedin and then Sedin coming back with a greasy hit to the head.

Does anyone seriously think Sedin would be sitting for 5 games?

I think the 5 games shows that there was a little something behind the scene like politics. The NHL disciplinary always has been and will be inconsistent.

I agree with you that it has been inconsistent. Nothing new here.

I disagree with you that it will always be inconsistent (I suppose mostly ideally). Consistency can be achieved if the league would vanquish the power that leeway allows them. Maybe that's how you mean it will always be inconsistent, as the league will never want to give up that power.

A system in place could go a long way.

I'm having a tough time wrapping my head around this one, honestly.

Keep watching the video ...

Sedin hits Keith in head - YouTube

The "follow through" actuially is where this clown Sedin hits the body after his head shot... not the other way around. Someone summed it up nicely, payback is a *****.

Although imho there were more effective ways of doing that --- all water under the bridge, but really close to all of a sudden sanctioning trying to take out a guy's knees simply because the officiating crew managed to miss something.

The in person meeting just signifies that the situation is more serious. Shit just got real.

Keith, you're in trouble but its not too major.

Oh wait, the guy's brother said you were talking shit before you hit him. You better come see us in person because you're in bigger trouble now.

Now that the suspension has been handed down and looking back at this "switch," this "switch" never should have been publicized. He was suspended 5, which is still plausible for a phone hearing. Tell me it wouldn't have been best to stick to their original guns.

It confirms the league's disorganization and "clown league" it truly is (as if there was any prior doubt). This is supposed to be a professional league.

I love the game and I'm embarrassed for the league, really. Clowns.
