christian jones stinks........the other two I think can become staples to the defense

I don't think he stinks. We need a playmaker at ILB and then him and McLovin can compete for the other spot. They're both (McLovin and Jones) complimentary players. Although I'd much rather have Jones than McLovin paired with a 'play maker'.

Interesting stuff. Maybe I need to re-watch the games because I've thought Jones seems to be in better position more frequently than Shea. Than again, that isn't saying much. I didn't think Jones looked quite as bad as every one else so maybe I haven't been watching close enough.

And I agree about Jenkins -- he's looked legit. I'd really like to find some core pieces on D this season.

Washington looked really good as a pass rushing 3-4 DE as well Im not sure if this is his last year or he has one more left but wish we could have seen him.

As far as ILB Shea has been average at best Jones not so much. If they didnt go QB in round one dont be surprised to see Jaylon Smith, or Hargreaves

The only two teams we have played this year which we actually got some pressure was Seattle which showed last night they have what is likely the worst online in the NFL right now. Their GM fucked that team trading away their center for graham.

And I do t know enough about raiders oline but my guess is they stink too.

I'll wait it till later in the season before I claim any young player looks promising.

Shit, remember fuller was being called the ROY this time last year. No he is failing at covering teams' #2 receivers...

Jones isn't good. I don't know if it's a scheme issue or whether he belongs at another position in the 3-4.

My favorite teams
  1. Chicago Cubs
  1. Chicago Bears
  1. Chicago Blackhawks
  1. Indiana Hoosiers
All three have shown glimpses of high level play.
The only glimpse for Jones was the one the Oakland RB saw of him picking up his jock on the goal line last Sunday.

The raiders had given up 1 sack before Sunday.

He really stood out (in a bad way) against Oakland. He looked lost.

It's simple, we expected the young DL to step up and show a level of competence before the season started. They are performing as advertised.

At ILB everything is as expected, there isn't a starter worthy player among Jones and McClellin. We knew going Jones and McClellin likely weren't going to be long term starters or play makers and that that position would need an upgrade and it's been confirmed. They're both below average and the best linebackers on the team, but comparatively speaking you want to upgrade both ILB spots.

Neither one has made a real impact play on the season. They're not fast enough instinctive enough or physical enough. They're competent backup types and you want a bigger impact from that spot.

You don't have to have a level of disdain for either Shea or Jones, just a simple realization that the. Bears can do better.

I guess you haven't been watching very close then. Shea Mac had his lowest tackle total the last game, but had his best game, making plays at the line of scrimmage and impacting pass plays on both the front and back end. Four games into being the play calling ILB, he is playing at an average level, he is far from the first guy needing replaced.

If he plays at this level all year he is just a guy, but not a bad guy, if he continues to grow in the position he may end up being + at the position.

When I look at those 3 names this is what I see:

Goldman- Can be a very good NT for many years & looks like a very good value in the 2nd round. Developing a pass rush will make him even that much more valuable.

Ferguson- To this point, he's there & not screwing up but I'm not sure they can have him as a starter if they expect the front 3 to have a consistent pass rush. Like some have said, I think he's a solid player but may be better suited a rotational piece.

Jones- I've yet to see anything out of him this year that can be labeled as even "average". He looks lost in pass coverage & quite frankly, just isn't that much of a factor. I think that McClellin is the better overall player, but to be in a successful defense, they are going to need at least a much better counterpart to either McClellin/Jones in 2016-beyond.

Hoping Acho can become a decently good player opposite McPhee. Would love to have those two spots solidify and we can start using later round picks to develop pass rushers in a rotation rather than have to spend big in FA or use a high draft pick. Gives us some options in the offseason.

Definitely like what I see from Goldman and Jenkins so far. Sutton was doing pretty well til the injury and Amos has been pretty decent, especially for a 5th round rookie.

I keep seeing Jones get absolutely stuffed every time he goes in for a blitz and doesn't even disrupt the lineman enough to let other players free. He was great blitzing last year so I'm curious why he's regressed this year.

Agreed though that ILB and CB are the two weakest position at the moment.

Hasn't he been injured? Or were you referring to the preseason?

I wonder if Ratliff starts over Goldman when he gets back.

Ratliff-Goldman-Jenkins

Probably would be our best lineup

The Bears had a couple of sacks and even more pressures on Carr and Oakland was the highest rated pass blocking line in the league. In fact they had allowed only 1 sack in 3 games.

McPhee is 2nd in the league in QB pressures.
