I heard somewhere that he switched to SS responsibilities this season to make way for HCD. If true could be one reason for the stepback. Also, from the untrained eye I feel like he had to try to over compensate for some of HCD's shortcomings..

Way to get it done now. This decision made much quicker than the Whitehair and Goldman extensions. Also another testament to Pace's drafting. Any draft pick that gets a 2nd long-term contract is a great pick.
