Before the draft 26th, after the draft still 26th. Here's the logic:
The Bears went offense with three of their first four picks, including WR Kevin White (seventh overall). How will that help a defense that allowed the second-most points last season?
Thoughts?

The only thing more worthless than an in-season power ranking is a power ranking before any draft picks or free agents have practiced or played for their new teams. What is the point of stuff like this? Seriously.

Gotta take into account coaching changes, free agent moves and the draft.

Looking at the draft in a vacuum doesn't tell the whole story.

So all the FA signings don't help?

Lazy journalist is lazy.

So all the FA signings other teams make doesn't help them?

I think it is a fair ranking of the Bears, the defense is still a big question mark...then throw in the fact its a new system with a new set of coaches running the show.

what ranking would you feel was fair for the Bears at this point?

If Kevin White doesn't start from Day 1, it's Jay Cutler's body language's fault. The Eddie Goldman pick in the second round took this whole 3-4 fad from talking point to the point of attack when the Packers come calling Week 1. That will be a raucous matchup: 2014 rookie stud Corey Linsley and Goldman, mano a mano. Was a little surprised GM Ryan Pace opted for Jeremy Langford at No. 106 overall, given that Ka'Deem Carey already backs up one of the best backs in football. But perhaps this was another case of the BPAs. And while I am typing this, the robot scene from Rocky IV (Paulie's birthday gift) is playing on the TV. Seriously, was that the best prop available?

My point was if you are going to do a Power Ranking at this point of the offseason then its lazy to only look at the draft as what each team did to improve. If you can grade a draft then you can grade each teams FA signings.

At the end of the day these power rankings are worthless anyway. To answer your question though I think the Bears will be 7-9 to 9-7 this year so around 20 ish

Thankfully because of great insight like this I can avoid watching useless seasons. I will save my money and get the Sunday ticket once they get a top 5 ESPN post draft power ranking.

Agree it is early to do any type of power ranking and when evaluating a team the whole offseason should be taken into account. Your original post made it sound like the Bears should be ranked higher for their FA moves, which is why I said most teams make FA moves to improve also. Unless a team drafts a blue chip player in their biggest position of need no one can say definitively that a team has improved based off of the draft.

I'm not expecting anything better than an 8-8 season from the Bears this year and I am not saying that as if it is a bad thing...with the amount of question marks on the team I would see an 8-8 season as a good start to the Fox era

26th? I would've thought we'd be 25th at least...
