Playing with scrubs against scrubs, still you have to like the composure he shows as a rookie. Knows when to put more or less velocity on the ball. You can also see both his decision making and wheels were likely quite a bit underrated. And no Cam Newton crap from him, he goes after his own fumbles!

I don’t think he played bad or anything. But tearing up 2nd and 3rd stringers in a preseason game is not something that I am gonna get overly excited about. The TD to James was wide fucking open. Anyone should hit that.

You can see his athleticism and overall talent. I have high hopes he can be a great player. Maybe even this year but it will probably take some time to get there.

You can really see the difference in speed on that long run he had. I know it's against back-ups, but still - it's the NFL. So, when you see him running and it just looks effortless while the guys chasing him look like they are pushing to the extreme edge of what they can do..it just stands out.

And the accuracy and touch is real. He has a cannon, but he can throw it with touch. There were a couple of close calls, but I don't think there wasn't a single throw there where you had no idea what the hell he saw and/or who he was throwing the ball to because it was so far off the mark. That is nice change.

Incredibly natural and ultra talented playmaker. Not a throw he can't make from anywhere to anywhere on the field as well as being able to run around or through folks.

Imagine this with Robinson, Mooney, Kmet as weapons.

Damn, watch Bars with a huge pancake @3:00.

Edit: Love how decisive he is when he gets out of the pocket, he sees not only the routes in front of him when he scrambles, but he understands the timing of the routes - no more scramble just to see the QB throw the ball too late forcing the receiver to run OOB just to catch it.

6 incompletions

1- slant to Lacy, if that was Robinson, that's a completion. 0 separation from WR
1- corner to Adams, pinpoint throw, great play by the DB. Again maybe a catch if ARob
1- tipped ball
1- near INT to James, probably pass interference but Fields drifted back and threw off his back foot. Maybe regular season he stands in there and takes the hit. Floated on him a bit, but still an extremely accurate throw, high to a 6'7" TE.
1- Adams diving attempt, probably should have been caught though would have been a tough catch. Fine with the throw on the run.

Good, not great, game. But I think it showed what we all think. Fields, even without his absolute A-game, still gives the Bears the best chance to win.

I like the way he purposely lobbed it so there was no way the WR could flub it. There's a lot of maturity and situational awareness in his game. He plays the percentages well. Has a high reward to risk ratio while taking appropriate risks. His only error was the fumble that he recovered.

NFL preseason Week 1 updates and schedule -- Justin Fields thrives in debut with Bears, Bridgewater returns to Minnesota as a Bronco

Standout performer: Bears QB Justin Fields, 142 passing yards, one touchdown, 33 rushing yards, one rushing touchdown

i

The Chicago Bears offense was burn the tape bad in Saturday's first half -- Miami outgained Chicago 215-79 -- before rookie quarterback Justin Fields injected life into Soldier Field. Fields (14-of-20 for 142 yards, one touchdown, 33 rushing yards, one rushing touchdown) looked like, well, a rookie, for most of the second quarter when he replaced Andy Dalton, but the first-round pick eventually settled into a groove and caught fire after halftime. As the game wore on, Fields showed terrific command of the pocket, and when he scrambled, he often froze Miami defenders, who were unsure of whether he would throw or take off. Fields' blazing speed is going to be a huge asset whenever he becomes the starting quarterback. His eight yard touchdown run in the third quarter also showcased his strength -- Fields deftly avoided a Miami defender who swiped at him before he took off for the score. Is it just the preseason? Yes. But did Fields show more than enough promise for an NFL debut? Absolutely. -- Jeff Dickerson

Looks like what I saw in his college films, Trubisky with more ability. Runs better, throws better.
Problem is Nagy didn't want to call games for that type of QB. Unless Nagy gets over him being him I'm not sure how much better a QB type he doesn't want to design plays for will be.

About that Oline: I woke up at 2pm and heard it was the starting oline. If that was the starting oline at the start of the video they do look quite a bit better. If that wasn't just a lack of pressure because of preseason that could open up longer plays with a QB more likely to make them.

looked like a lot of forced throws. he'll have to acclimate to game speed yet, but he picked the right game to mess around and experiment I guess. he plays like he's supposed to be there. it's at least fun to watch.

I have no idea who's who this year, I'll wait until guys get cut to sort that out. rofl

Are we still counting almost picks? 4 + 2 almost fumbles.
