I'm curious to hear the argument in favor of Colvin.
What if he could raise his OBP?
young, not in his prime yet, still has high ceiling, cheap...like i said earlier, send him to the southside.
It's unreasonable to think that he can. He has never had a high OBP. He might be able to by 5 or 10 points, but that's basically nothing.

it is also unreasonable to think that he cant. it is a guessing game with that, you cannot say "oh its unreasonable" and give a number like 5 or 10 points. cmon
He isn't in his prime, but I don't think he can repeat what he did last year. At all. As for a high ceiling... what high ceiling is this? I am not aware.

Ya maybe he could but until he does I won't hold my breath.

Again, small sample size. 1 year in the bigs. no one can say he will or will not succeed just yet.
Considering he his highest OBP in the minors was .336 and his average OBP was .320, it is unreasonable to think he can. He's not a high OBP guy, flat out.
ALL young players have a ceiling, a ceiling that you will not see them hit until you have a solid foundation of statistics in more than one sample size year in the MLB. Again please send him to the sox, and since you devalue him so much i will give you a bag of peanuts.

It's too small of a sample size to say you'd want him with the sox... Unless he was part of a package.
wow, so we are basing this off of his years in the minors when he was in his early 20's........i guess players dont improve over time. I guess whatever a player does in the minors is concrete, and that will translate to their whole career. ok.
I know they have ceilings, I'm not Special person. His just isn't high. He has always been regarded as a tweener, or fringe starter, according to scouts. I would say his ceiling is a slightly above average COF.
Actually we can. Based on his minor league numbers, we can make some reasonable assumptions about him. Obviously we won't know if they will come true or not, but to say we can't say anything is a bit ridiculous.
not at all, i would want him soley due to his salary and potential to be a good player, not a super star, but a cheap young outfielder with potential so that we can move CQ out of RF.
Right Dewey, because that is exactly what I am saying. He can improve over time... but to think that he will improve in the category of OBP makes you sound stupid. He has never gotten on base a lot, so why should we think that he can improve that? He doesn't have a good eye and is a free swinger, we shouldn't expect a high OBP and we won't get one.
