My favorite teams
Nothing's a sure thing, either way. There's times that it doesn't work out whichever way you go. If Fields doesn't work out then the next QB you draft in a couple years might not work out either. The Bears have never been in a position to draft a QB that is considered to be as good of prospects as the top 2 are this year (at least in my lifetime). Of course that doesn't mean they'll work out, and I'm by no means a scout. But to me when you're the sole franchise that doesn't have a 4k yard or 30 TD passer, you have to take every shot you have at landing a franchise QB. We've seen 2.5 seasons of Fields. From what we've seen it's not enough for me to pass up this opportunity unless you are using his legs at a high rate, which isn't sustainable IMO. If I felt you could do that long term it might alter my opinion. I get the other side of the argument, but I personally wouldn't pass up this opportunity. As far as money, if my google searches are correct, it looks like it's a pretty significant difference in affect on the cap if you pick up the 5th year option vs drafting a QB.But they don't have to give up that money, yet. 5th yr option and we can surely get a 2025 first round pick with a trade down that could be used to draft a QB the next draft. None of this class including Williams, Maye etc look like a sure thing to me. I'd much rather see the Bears use the draft capital and cap space to continue to build this team. Worst case scenario, you put a rookie in a much better situation vs this Bears Groundhog Day bullshit. Best case you didn't throw the baby out with the bathwater by prematurely ejecting Fields.
