I personally got a 980 ti just so i could sell my 780's now, before pascal comes out and they drop 50% or more in value.

Just sold both on ebay for $250 each, giving me a 980 ti for just over $100.

When the pascal 1080 ti comes out, I will sell my 980 ti and will likely be able to get a 1080 for somewhere around $200 or less.

im honestly not sure pascal is going to offer much more in terms of performance at the given price points. perhaps the very top of the line will but i think most cards will only see slight improvements over their predecessors. which as really been the case for a number of generations now hasnt it?

i think the next big improvement will be single cards truly capable of 4k i.e. a steady 60fps. but im not sure will see that all that soon. though if your waiting months before you build you might as well sli the 980ti successor. if you were building now id say theres no reason to wait, but since your not you might as well go with whats out at the time.

900 series was a very incremental improvement except for the 980 ti. However, pascal is featuring the first die shrink in years and HBM stacked memory. Could be a pretty significant jump. The word is that the consumer line will have 16 gb memory for example. But we will see. I think pascal will drive 4k at 60 fps consistently in most games.

I agree, if you are building from scratch right now, it would be dumb to wait. But if you can run games at acceptable settings I certainly would not upgrade right now.

I only upgraded from 780 sli cause I was freaked out the floor on used 700 series was gon drop out soon.

32gb ram? lol, you spending $600 on just the mobo and ram? your mobo is like twice as expensive as your cpu, haha

Definitely would trade a cheaper mobo for a 6700K

Wooo! Just RMA'd my psu through Corsair and had a really pleasant experience.

I upgraded my gpu from 2x 780 sli to a 980 ti and the psu stared buzzing. Was weird cause it was actually a net drop in voltage. Anyway, filed a rma for coil whine and it was approved.

Thing is, they don't make my psu anymore, so corsair sent me a top tier platinum efficiency model, which is super cool. I also did the express RMA so I had zero downtime with my PC.

I should be building next week. Mobo is on the way.
SLI is not really in plan anymore, but the m.2 drive is.

Everything marked as purchased is in build.
She is built.
Scores better than 99% of all results on 3DMark Sky Diver, and Firestrike benchmarks.
I'll post pics some other time.

went with a single 980ti? thats actually probably better since you stuck with a 6600k. its a solid processor but i think it might bottleneck sli 980ti at anything under 4k. cpu intensive games can max out its usage regularly. its fine for my single 390 build, but id still like to upgrade to a 6700k some time down the line when micro center has a awesome sale on it like they used to do with the 4790k. if its anything like the 4790k theyll eventually have sales with the 6700k going for 280 or so, then i might try to sell the 6600k for around 200 bucks and upgrade for cheap.

though if youve got sli 980tis you should be gaming at 4k anyway which is far more gpu intensive and the 6600k might be fine then, idk. but if youre spending 1200 dollars on gpus, 600+ dollars on a monitor, etc. whats 100 bucks more for the 6700k?

Fuckin drunk post.
Meant 90%, not 99%.

I've got Dirt Rally maxed out. Looks and plays great.
Asus software runs at 3.9. I have her at 4.5 now and no problems.
I still have to figure out controls and settings for BeamNG.drive.
It looks pretty shaky but haven't gotten into settings at all yet.
