For all you anglers, fishing is picking up on Lake Michigan after the down days of early summer, and pretty soon the Kings will be staging.

Do you fish the lake often? My Dad has been toying with hitting the lake and pounding the shores for some smallies and other fighters.

He pulls a few salmon from shore when my folks go to Door County in October. I haven't done any deep water fishing.

I dunno. 3 fat dudes in my Dad's boat......I doubt it is rated for that amount of tonnage.

I try to get out at least once per week; when the Kings are staging I will be out as much as possible because they are a blast to catch. I launch out of NorthPoint Marina in Winthrop Harbor . There is no launch fee, and plenty of parking.

Fish in the photo were caught close in 50 - 80 feet , thankyou West winds. Down riggers were stacked from 35 to 15. Also had some lead cores and dipseys out.

Yea they are headed down. You ever go for eyes?

Canada they are about 80ft already. It's cool you see the White Fish at 70, the Lakers at 80, and then some inbetween feedin on the White Fish. Hollar if ya ever need someone to go with ya!

Local and the Oahe in SD , but never tried Erie.

I invited Planz out a couple of times , but he never committed. Ron I often leave the ramps very early,

because I enjoy glow spoon fishing. Saturday I launched at 4:00 am, and preferred 3:00 am because of the West winds. Before the 3rd rod went into the water the first glow spoon had a hit. We had 3 fish in the cooler before sunrise.

Count me in for that as well. I have never tied into salmon, nor have I been on Lake Michigan. I fear I may get in the way, but perhaps I could at least give ya a hand.

yea thats pretty fuckin early spanky!!! My Uncle goes to Erie for tourneys all the time. Pull some pretty massive fish out considering where that lake was about 20 years ago.

I might take you up on that some weekend assuming I could get my fat ass up that early, or I might just never go to sleep! I'll be doing Flat Head Lake the last weekend of August.

We used to go up just south of Washington Island all the time. Other than the weird choppy water between the Bay and Michigan the Salmon fishing was always hot on most trips.

I shall be crossing that body of water enroute to Sturgis for the Rally.

Ironically, I gave up my fly in for eyes and hammerhandles in Canada

to head west to dem dar hills that appear to be black. My wifes family

is from Gettysburg which is just east of Oahe. A very interesting body

of water to fish.

I fish in the Carolinas offshore, northern Wisconsin for skis, Canada for

eyes and pikes and many places in between but I have never fished

Michigan. Add me to the list that would be interested in trying that.

Maybe get a group and charter a boat for a day?

**** thats way up there. If you go down about 3 inches and to the Right you'll see a lake called Reed Lake Manitoba. That's where we used to go every year for about 20 years. Best fishing anywhere I've ever been. I would think you'd have to fly into Jonathan Toews Lake via float plane.

And yes, come Sept, it gets real cold, real quick. Like the first week in Sept.

Sept-Oct is when the big ones starting feeding before winter... Thats when you start catching the 10-12lbs walleyes.

I've never heard of Reed Lake, I am from Red Lake Ontario though. Pretty sweet fishing up there, 150km highway north from the trans Canada is jam packed with fishing lodges all the way up to Red Lake. I used to make a killing in my high school years working at a friends fishing lodge guiding guests to all the fishing spots.
