That can't be it, its a in the middle of Saskatchewan.
You saw that too?

My Pops, a friend and I are headed to Rainey Lake in Sept. We are actually looking for a fourth.

He wants to do a fly in, and I am not too keen on that. I have seen the equipment used, and the abuse it takes and the maintenance not performed, and I am frightened.

I may do a fly in to Toews lake though.

I shall be crossing that body of water enroute to Sturgis for the Rally.

Ironically, I gave up my fly in for eyes and hammerhandles in Canada

to head west to dem dar hills that appear to be black. My wifes family

is from Gettysburg which is just east of Oahe. A very interesting body

of water to fish.

I fish in the Carolinas offshore, northern Wisconsin for skis, Canada for

eyes and pikes and many places in between but I have never fished

Michigan. Add me to the list that would be interested in trying that.

Maybe get a group and charter a boat for a day?
I would be up for that.

Yeah, that's most definitely NOT the location (funny that Sask has a Toews lake already though :p)

Great fishing up there though.

Sept-Oct is when the big ones starting feeding before winter... Thats when you start catching the 10-12lbs walleyes.

I've never heard of Reed Lake, I am from Red Lake Ontario though. Pretty sweet fishing up there, 150km highway north from the trans Canada is jam packed with fishing lodges all the way up to Red Lake. I used to make a killing in my high school years working at a friends fishing lodge guiding guests to all the fishing spots.
Depends though. Early Sept is when the lake overturns. If you are there during that your'e screwed as nothing bites. We've been unfortunate to hit that a couple of times. The absolute best time is when the ice first breaks. Fish are dying to eat and the Lake Trout are still up because the water is cold.

[http] Above is the lodge on the...t that's right along the Saskatchawan border.

Re: Lake Michigan Fishing

I fished a forest preserve pond a couple times this summer and caught some tiny bluegills, but ate them anyway. Very tasty, even when fried.

While swimming near Adler Planetarium the lifeguard, when asked, said he has seen fishermen having success catching perch in the vicinity.

I'll probably get around to trying that soon.

I've always wanted to learn to fish. Fresh fish is so much better than anything you can find in the store.

If they are over 16 years old and catching perch in Illinois during July outside the reciprocal waters they are POACHING.

Wow.

I'll have to visit the Illinois DNR site regarding fishing in Lake Michigan.

It has been about 40 years since I've fished in Lake Michigan (Illinois shores only).

I was considering going perch fishing from shore on the south side this weekend, Tommy. I would have been nailed, because I probably would have gone to a spot straight from home with bait ready.

I'm not sure if it's called poaching, but -- like you mentioned -- it's against the regs. See page 20.

Aren't the Smelt almost gone now? Man we used to have a blast when I was young. Hanging out drinking with the old guys railing in the Smelt.

I think the mid 80's brought the last of the smelt catches. Last time I went was in the late 70's.

Perching might be in season in Wisconsin.

right beside Flin Flon, eh? if anyone wants to go there, it'd be faster to fly into Saskatoon than Winnipeg.

We used to smelt back in the late 70's. Stay up half the night, net a couple of 5 gallon buckets of them, cook up a mess of them right there and drink beer. Then get 3 hours of sleep and go back to work. We'd usually go around Burns Ditch and the harbor in Indiana.

Haven't done it since.
