September 3rd to the 10th. You don't have to know how to fish, they just bite.

Sound fun?[/quote]

It definitely sounds fun, but my friends from Seattle are flying in on the 5th :( I'll be in Winnipeg for the first 2 weeks of august for 2 family reunions (the second week is wide open except for the weekend). That would have been perfect as would have any other time in august.

I'm sorry, but If i caught a fish that big it would become my latest cooking creation, not be released :p.

Not if the DNR was there Canuckle. Or after you fillet that cooking creation you can stop by the office and write them a check.

Besides the big fish are not the eating fish, and Northerns are massively boney. The meats ok but when your up there it's all about the shore lunch with the eyes. Or the pan fried Lakers.

Re: Toews Lake - Plan your vacation now

I want to catch lake trout! Nice pics and beatiful scenery (not you Lughead).

As far as my northern (45" x 17") I could have taken her home because she

was over the slot but I would never in my life do such a thing. I only keep what

I am going to eat that day. The lodge manager was telling us last year that some

ahole caught a 50" pike and brought is back to the lodge. He asked the manager

to freeze it for him so he could have it mounted. He took a hatchet and chopped

it in half and told him there were mounts that could have been made and now he

can take it home and eat it! He was pissed just talking about it and it was a month

or two previous.

Yea I'm the same way. Like I said the older the fish the worse eating it is. No matter the species. Plus you let them go back to live another day and be caught another day.

Lakers are funny up there. In the summer they dive DEEP for the cold water. So you are pulling them up from up to 100ft at some points. They, like us, have their bladder bloat out with air. So a good percentage of time the fish will die anyway swimming in circles trying to dive but not able too due to the oxygen in their bladder. You can poke the bladder and release the air but it's not the easiest thing to do. I had a 49lber that I let go and I just knew he died.

Great eating though about 26-32 inches. I think as good as the Walleye.

Reed Lake in Grass River Provincial Park has a record of a 67 inch Northern. Although they call them "jacks" up there. 45-55 inch are in the norm when biting.

Walleye are great eating at about 17 or so inches.

The bigger the fish you should release. Let them pass on their big fish genes. At the aren't good eating.

On Rainey where we are going the slot, at least a few years ago, was about 14.75" to near 18", then one over 24" for a trophy. They aren't exact measurements, as everything was in that weird ass metric.

I'm in the same boat (broke). You just have to find local ponds and go for bass or pike if available. I've been hitting them just about every weekend, better then nothing I guess.

no but I always wanted to lose a pair of those. The glasses above are at about 100ft right below where the boat in that picture is.

Re: Lake Michigan Fishing

41 lb Brown Trout caught in Lake Michigan off Racine today. Very close to the world record:

I didn't break any records today but these two Kings were decent:

Never quite understood the fascination folks have with catching Northern Pike... Vile slimy creatures they are... land one in your boat and your a fly magnet for the rest of the day.
