Well, either way, you are gonna have to fly to the lake itself. I would fish Toews Lake.

I think the mid 80's brought the last of the smelt catches. Last time I went was in the late 70's.

Perching might be in season in Wisconsin.[/quote]

Yeah Wisconsin is open i think the limit is 5 per person hard to catch a meal for 1

Indiana is open too just not Illinois ahh the good old days as a kid i used to smelt alot with my dad and uncles.

when we first started going up there in the 80's the road ENDED in Flin Flon on the West and Thompson on the East. You would have to take the train from there to Church Hill to get any further North.

I love it up there, in the SUMMER of course. Winter must be a complete ***** but the Ice Fishing has gotta be out of this world once you get past the 50 inches of ice.

We drive so we can bring our own boat but there are plenty of lodges like Grass Lake that will fly you up from the Peg then charter you out to secluded lakes via their float planes. Lots of great lakes up there though for fishing that are accessible by vehicle. 26 hours from Chicago. Driving.

I'm thinking we should make an IHN fishing trip to Manitoba.

Like I said, My dad and I are looking for an extra fisher person. We have a 3rd, but a fourth would balance us out a bit.

Would prefer a non smoker with a decently clean mouth. I guess that eliminates everyone here.

We will be bringing our inflatable Stnlay Cup

That could be possible. Western Montana is loaded with Fishing. Some of the best Trout Fly Fishing in the World, although I'm not a huge Fly Rod fan. I'd rather use a ultra light spinning combo.

I'll tell you when I come back how good it was this year. I'm flying out the last week of August.

Re: Toews Lake - Plan your vacation now

I know nothing of fly fishing. Stick me on a boat and let me jig for walleyes or see if I can't net me a few bronzebacks and i am good.

Seemingly, I destroy the northern whenever my pops and I go to Canada.

LOL! Don't worry Jako I never really "enjoyed" fly fishing. It was not relaxing.

First time I went to Manitoba I was about 9. My Dad gave me a bunch of giant buck tails and said have fun. I was reeling in 35-40 inchers the entire time we were there. I've been hooked ever since. In later years he taught me how to get down 90ft to the massive Lakers.

Nothing like fishing with your Dad!

I have yet to get a Laker. I heard they are a good fight, and require a lot of patience. So how do you catch them? HA!!!!

My pops made a bunch of spinner baits the first year we went up to Canada. As we were waiting for the boat to pick us up, I decided to throw one from the dock. First cast, reeling it in, a nice 32 inch northern nailed it. I had never caught anything more then say, a decent catfish, I was surprised to put it lightly. That whole week I schooled my Pops in Northern catching.

September 3rd to the 10th. You don't have to know how to fish, they just bite.

Sound fun?
