I have started to think about how you fix the WR core moving forward to ensure that Trubisky has talent around him in 2018 and beyond. The Eagles did it this season be adding a number of weapons to support Wentz after his rookie season.

Obviously nothing is happening this season.

Priorities

-I think with the accuracy and timing of Trubisky that the Bears can prioritize speed and play-making ability over size. Because of Cutler's inaccuracy and willingness to chuck it up in the past the Bears have put a premium on size, often at the detriment of speed.

-Obviously durability needs to come into the conversation a little more.

-The Bears need outside WRs, more than slot guys right now, and this is why evaluating Wright is going to be so important. At 27 he could be a long term slot guy, but he needs to produce now that he is going to get more targets.

Depth Chart Moving Forward

1. Meredith, hoping that he recovers fully and in time for the season, but counting on him to fill the top role is a risk.
2.
3.
4. Wright, I think he will be worth keeping, but I am hesitant to pencil him into a primary role.
5. Gentry, I am not sure what he will do this season, but an ability to run deep routes and track the ball must be developed.
6. Bellamy, he will never be cut.

Wheaton, I just do not know if he is worth keeping after the guarantees run out this season. He was injured in Pittsburgh and has been injured here. The Bears need more reliability so that Trubisky can develop with these guys.

White, if people think he is going to be something moving forward or that he can even be relied on to make it through week 1 they are crazy. I know his money is guaranteed, but I doubt he makes the team knowing he will be on IR quickly.

Thoughts

1. I think the Bears need an unquestioned starter on the outside from either the draft or free agency. I would lean towards someone with the speed to get deep and create big plays.

2. I think the Bears need a matchup issue in the slot or that can be moved around.

3. I am reluctant to use a 1st round pick on a WR. The risk/return is often not good, as we have seen with Kevin White, but the 2nd round is where I would be targeting someone to come in and contribute.

4. I think they HAVE to address the position with a starting free agent player. This covers them in the event that Meredith is injured, or the draft pick is not ready to play right away. I am looking for a young and reliable veteran.

-Allen Robinson: There were rumors he was getting tagged and now the ACL throws everything into chaos.
-Jarvis Landry: I like the player, I like what he might do with an accurate passer in the middle of the field, but off field and contract concerns will factor in.
-Sammy Watkins: way to unreliable for me.
-Terrelle Pryor: love the size and speed, not sure about the mental make up.
-Donte Moncrief: hurt last season, but produced 7 TDs in 7 starts and has size and speed.
-Jordan Matthews: big and reliable, but no dynamic speed.
-John Brown: not big and some injuries, but the dude can flat out fly down the field

My Ideal WR Core for 2018

1. Cam Meredith
2. Paris Campbell [2nd Round]
3. Donte Moncrief [FA-4 years 28 million]
4. Wright
5. Gentry
6. Bellamy

I think that adds speed and much better depth.

Cam Meredith was not a #1 WR before he tore his ACL.... idk why you would pencil him in as our #1 WR next year.

IMO that is as bad as Pace having penciled Kevin White in as a starting WR for this year.

Draft, draft, draft, just not in the 1st round. Think when Jags took Lee(2nd), Robinson(2nd) and Hurns (UDFA). Let the whole squad battle it out. Just don't spend big on a WR FA.. they cost too much right now.

Matt Ryan has Julio Jones

Mitchell Trubiksy has Cameron Meredith???

Get this kid a real weapon. First round or later we need a true number one WR. If there is one WR I want the Bears to trade for is DeAndre Hopkins 5 years and never missed a game. It's unlikly but possible if DeShaun Watson has a bad rookie year. Jadeveon Clowney is going to want a monster contract after 2018 and Texans might not have the money.

I agree. Meredith is a solid #2, but there are only two teams in the NFL that would have him as a #1 the Bears and the Jets. IMO, we need a big, strong, reliable target. A Brandon Marshall type. Run good routes, know how to get open, and catch the ball is #1a, 1b, 1c. Speed is #2. It is easy to find fast receivers. The hard part is finding receivers that understand how to play receiver.

If Jeffery stays healthy all season for he Eagles, is it crazy to hope he would be willing to come back? I think he would need to see Trubs play well before the end of the season and if he stays healthy and has a good season this year, he will want to get PAID$$$$. I have not seen the list of unrestricted FA WR's for next year, but I cannot imagine there will be many better than a HEALTHY Alshon. To me, he would EASILY step in and be the unquestioned #1

I've prepared myself so flame on...

It's rare for good WRs to hit the open market. They usually get the tag if there is any doubt of signing one to a long-term deal. The "best" WR that might hit the open market is Alshon, lol, but he isn't gonna resign in Chicago regardless of how desperate Pace would be. Other option might be Sammy Watkins but he and White would battle it out for first to go on IR. There isn't a single WR on the team currently that will be here in another season. I'd give Meredith the best chance depending on how quickly he could bounce back. It will take at least 2 seasons from now to make the WR core average.

Probably going to take 2 draft picks next year. 2nd round and a mid round maybe? No more 1st round picks unless it's the fucking can't miss pick of the century.

A free agent solid type guy. Doubt we pick up a true #1 there.

And pray one of Wheaton or Wright proves worthy of a long term deal this year.

It may take 2 years to completely turn that position around.

You are ruling out Kevin White but he will still on the team next year - depending on if he comes back later this year and performs. I know everyone wants to dismiss him but the Bears probably still want to at least bring him back for camp next year (of course that may come down to him performing the second half of this year). The Bears won't wait around for him next year though. I'm sure they are going to bring in 2-3 more new faces.

For me, if the Bears are going to address the WR position, it needs to be during free agency or via a trade. The Bears should stay away from WR in the top of the draft. Continue to use those high draft picks to protect Trubisky (lineman).

Errr, maybe instead of Shaheen we should have gone WR with our 2nd rounder?

Would love to see Pace get aggressive and go acquire Landry if his trade value is reasonable, and then sign Allen Robinson in FA. A-Rob and Meredith outside with Landry in the slot would give Trubisky plenty of weapons and we could target DB/OLB/OL in the draft.

More realistically, Decker could be a decent target. He's on a cheap one-year deal and the Titans are finding out they don't really need him now that Corey Davis is healthy. Late rounder for Decker and take a WR in the first two rounds would be a lot better than going into next year with Cam and Kevin atop the depth chart.

I know Pace will go BPA, but would like to see:

1-EDGE
2-WR
4-CB
4-WR
5-OL
6-BPA
7-BPA

Next year will be a good year to trade down in the draft. Lots of QBs coming out teams will want to move up for. I would be happy if we ended up with 9 picks, even if it meant trading out of the first round.

Draft two WRs, two DBs, OL and EDGE in the first 4 rounds. Putting all the eggs into one basket for a high first round receiver is just too risky. I think the group will be improved more by adding multiple quality, if not spectacular prospects.

How does this trade go?

Bears trade 3rd pick of the Draft for Jets 1rst round pick and 2nd

Bears trade Jets first round pick to Bills for Bill 2nd round and 3rd round pick

Can we just keep trading until we have 50 2nd round pick in 2020 NFL Draft?

I like most of your ideas.

I also wouldn't rule out a 1st round WR just because of busts like Kevin White, there are many great WR's that have come from the 1st round. It largely depends on where they are drafting and the players available on the board. I would prioritize pass rusher over WR and maybe CB, although CB's seem to have just as big a bust rate as do WR's.

We should go after T. Pryor. Everyone knows that Pace isn't about making a splash in FA, but our #1 receiver right now is Wright. Pryor, Meredith, Wright I could live with paired with Cohen/Howard/Sims/Shaheen. Draft a WR in the 2nd/3rd and you also have Gentry.

Pryor
Meredith
Wright
2nd/3rd Rounder
Gentry

Two games into the season and we're talking trade downs? This post is for Ommy. Somewhere he's eating some smokies and Sprite thanking this post.
