In all honesty, I don't even pay attention to Edwin and Pat when I have the game on. I get tired of the lame commentary.
Same here, especially when Foley goes off on one of his tangents, I just tune him out.
no matter how you slice it, Foley just isn't good. But, McD gave the people what they wanted....Foley back in the booth. As far as ass kissing, he actually slammed Tallon that game with some comments about the Sedin sisters and the scouting staff. I'd never talk to Pat again if it were me.
Really, I didn't get that at all. I took it as Foley praising Brian Burke for pulling off the trades to nab both Sedins while also slamming Mike Smith. Foley made it clear it was Smith who traded away McCabe for Karpatsov and picking Yakobov and Vorobiev with the picks Murrary got. No where did I ever connect any of that to Tallon. If Tallon was actually telling Smith to take those two then he deserves to be slammed but that's highly unlikely.

Foley was slamming the scouting department for not picking them up. Problem is, that Foley was not privy to the politics involved at the time to know what the scouting department tried to do or didn't. There isn't anyone who knows both men and the history that heard the comments who thought it was only praise for Brian Burke and a slam to Smith.

If you say. I still say it was Foley's way of getting another dig in at how things were being run at the time and another chance to throw Smith and Karpatsov under the bus. Foley has gone out of his way in the past to show how Smith was a dumb dumb to trade McCabe. To me that's a plus to the scouting dept., not a slam. As far as the Sedins wasn't Burke panned a bit for giving away so much to get 2 slightly built Euros?

I just don't see how a "non-insider" could extrapolate any ill will towards Tallon from it. In fact I'm sure what Foley said resonated with 99% of the fans who weren't privy and lived through those shit years. But as far as inside knowledge goes, you'd know. And I have to say Foley was damn clever in going about it.

You can add me to the list of those excited when the announcement of Foley's return was made. That view has changed since.

Each season I become more and more weary of his calling of the games.

ERuns, If it came off as only a slam on Smith, then that is most excellent.

Len Kasper of the Cubs, when he was the guest shoot the puck douchebag at the Hawks game a few years back, actually went up into the booth and did a bit of the play by play and he wasn't too bad.

Foley is a Chicago legend and is where he belongs.

I hope he's there for as long as he wants to be and gets a banner hung from the rafters when he's done.

Just because you were good at one point, doesn't mean you get to stay there when you aren't good anymore.

Foley, is not good anymore, and or there is someone BETTER. It's time to let John take that role. He actually calls the game.

Legend or not, you have to be competent, well maybe not with Hawk fans apparently.

Foley is just fine. To say he is not good anymore is not accurate. He blabs a bit too much, but he did the same with Tallon.

Who cares anyway. It's television. How descriptive does he have to be?

I guess when I watch the road games, I care. If you don't so be it. When comparing Foley to Wiedeman there is no contest at this point. In that contest it is extremely accurate. Maybe you settle for a second rate product and that's fine. Foley is a shell of what he once was.

IMO it's very accurate.

Foley changed when he was switched to television. You don't need to be as descriptive as you do on radio. The same thing will happen to John Wiedemann if he ever starts doing television.

Harry Carey was a second rate announcer for most of his Chicago years, yet he was iconic and beloved on BOTH sides of town.

Foley is now an icon and I can't imagine him not being behind the mic.

The OVERWHELMING majority of Hawks fans like him there.

Really? Well this site of DIE HARD HAWK FANS completely disagree's with that statement. So do BOTH other fans sites, excluding the Officials which are so full of bandwagon fans the sample would be tainted.

A small sample size but when you find me a larger one, let me know.

Until then that statement you just made is bullshit.

And don't "assume" John would change his style. You have absolutely no clue or proof that he would. Sorry your child hood broadcasting Icon has lost it. I loved Foley, but that does not mean I'll make myself blind to his inadequacies. Nor his in ability to even get the players names right these days.

My feelings on this subject are well known...but since this is a new board I'll restate them.

Foley would be alot better if he wasn't in the booth with Edzo. When they are together Foley feels the need to make out with Eddie the whole time as well as blabber about everything under the sun. I used to have no problem with Eddie but this year he has become unbearable imo. Get anyone in there with Foley besides No Check; Weideman, Konroyd, Murray, anyone and that will make for a much more enjoyable tv broadcast.

This site's sample size is meaningless so that makes that point irrelevant.

The 300 level or Miller's site doesn't discuss Foley anywhere near as much as it's discussed here.

Pat changed when he went to TV....John would likely do the same. It's just natural because a picture tells a thousand words, so your play-by-play guy doesn't have to.

But you know what bullshit is? Assuming that this entire site agrees with your viewpoint.

Unfortunately most of us sync the radio to the broadcast and switch over.

You might be right but Foley is getting old. His memory is not what it used to be. He was once the best as they come. His Karpotsev rant was one of the best things I've ever heard in my life. That doesn't mean I'll stand by and ignore the deficiencies that constantly happen. Niemi is Rinnie and Rinnie is Neimi? It's his OWN TEAM for Christ sake.

And let's not get started on Eddie. That's an entirely different, and very heated topic.

Foley blathered on and on about nothing when he worked with Tallon, as well. Especially late in the game when (usually) the Hawks were well out of it.

I don't disagree that he isn't the same as he used to be.

But any suggestions that he should be replaced are laughable.
