A message from a couple of your old friends.....

Not so sure why the Cubs would seriously be interested in a young, expensive, 24 year old Tanaka. It appears the slurpers from this pathetic website and other active Cub forums, are now wanting, begging, and pleading to the front office to make this guy a Cub. Spend !!!! Spend !!!!! Spend !!!!!

But yet most of the same slurpers thought getting rid of a young, cost controlled, 24 year old in Andrew Cashner, (that just might have even better stuff than Tanaka) for an unproven and now below average first baseman was one of Boy Blunder's greatest moves ? I know how most must believe that talented young pitching can easily be replenished. Look how much the Hemmoroidys deal for Manhole'm was talked up.

Doesn't anyone remember the horrible contract of Soriano and how that has tied the Cub's hands and should never be repeated ? Look how far back that one contract alone has set us from being able to rebuild the ML team. I'm not sure this team or its fanbase could possibly stomach another contract like it. Jim Hendry is not with us any more. Can we also be sensitive to the renovations that are going to start someday ?

I hope if they do spend big and sign Tanaka. It is with the intent of getting him signed to flip for more propects this season, even at the age of 24. It would not be anything new and there is no way this team is going to compete in the near future. It will be a waste of money. If this FO was worried about pitching....They never would have traded Cashner, drafted Appel and Gray, and there would be NO COMFIRMED rumors of Shark being traded. Making the mistake of adding filler such as E-Jax likely would not have not ever happened.

The most expensive player, to this point, on the Cubs' payroll is playing for the Yankees. Just think of the return for Tanaka and what it would bring to the future.

Let me ask the hypocritical idiots one question.......Oh wait a minute.....Probably will not get an answer. What am I thinking.

Agree with most, disagree with little.

I would have drafted Appel and Bryant. Only disagreement.

This site isn't about spending. These fans think every cubs prospect will pan out and live to potential. This is the right way to build a team apparently because prospects never fail and free agents are too expensive! They also block the farm kids' precious production!

I hope if it takes 80 mil to win the posting for Tanaka, they do it. This team needs something, and help in the line up aint coming from day 1. It will all be on Javy Baez, whom Theo gets credit for bringing him up. Say Jim Hendry's name here and you face the firing squad.

Rizzo has this year to prove to me he's not a bust. He's gone from Votto comparisons, now he's Adam LaRoche, soon he will be Andy LaRoche. Cashner right now puts the Pads ahead.

Theo was too quick to get rid of a few players when he got here. We will have to wait and see if the Cashner trade works out for both teams.

You see guys like JNTG make a 2017 lineup card out of all prospects...

And you see people like me constantly remind people that it is a pointless exercise...

Sorry, but I have to say I've seen it a few times or more on here. It usually looks like this.

CF Almora
RF Soler
LF Bryant
1B Rizzo
SS Castro
3B Baez
2B Alcantara
C Castillo

The pitchers general include Hendricks, Johnson, Shark, and Edwards

Usually because shit you post isn't very well thought out or is backed up with half baked examples and people tear it apart.

It is far more entertaining then watching a Cubs game.

Point of the thread.

Tanaka more likely not get posted now. 20 mil is a slap in the face to the posting team. What I see happening is teams will sell off less years their control. 1-2 years vs 4-6 years o match the relative value. So I can see them holding onto him until the 2 year pre F/A point and taking the 20 mil then.

That decision should change the landscape of the posting system.

On the Cashner issue. Well M.S. Sense you sent the note. It is still too early to call it. Both are young. If Cashner steps up to ace status and Rizzo stays at this level it is a loss. No other way to argue the point.

Just remember that trade was pushed by Jed. Theo wanted to retain both Cashner and Shark. He also felt that young pitching had higher value. Jed also traded for Rizzo with the Pads so this was a trend.

I have said this in other topics but why does building the farm system have to be about getting all those prospects to the majors? Honestly, the reason I want the farm system built is to have ammunition for trades. If you look at the teams that were successful over long periods of time they didn't pull everything out of their minor league system. Having decent prospects allowed the Cards to acquire Rolen, McGwire, Holliday and Edmonds. It allowed the Yanks to acquire Justice, Knoblauch, Tino Marinez, Paul O'Neill and David Cone.

What would you like people to do? Try to predict a line-up with only the prospects that will pan out, which FA's will make there way here, who surprises, who doesn't surprise, and what the line-up will be in 3 years including off-season pick-ups and the like?

Cubs fans say "Our line-up will be a lot of young guys"...others say "YOU THINK THEY'LL ALL PAN OUT ARGHHHH!!!"
Cubs fans say "Maybe we can get player X"...others say "THE CUBS ARE CHEAP THEY WON'T PAY FOR ANYONE ARGHHH!!!"

Let's just close down the forums.

A sense of understanding that not all the prospects will not be around when the Cubs are competing. I think some fail to have that understanding here.

Again - I don't know anyone who has said they expect all the prospects to pan out. We've got two sides here, those hopeful that several do pan out, and those that expect few (if any) to pan out. The reality lies somewhere in between, most likely...but it's like Cutler in the Bears forum. Regardless of the fact that neither side of the proverbial fence is correct, we'll bicker back and forth like 4th graders for no reason at all...assuming the side with the most loud voices is winning. Happy posting.
