Per Elliote Friedman's HNIC twitter:

"Oilers deal a 6th round pick to Chicago for RFA centerman Colin Fraser. Thanks to Stauffer for confirming Oilers end"

I thought he was a serviceable 4th line center and seemed like a cool guy of the ice.

My favorite teams
 1. Portland Timbers
 1. Chicago Blackhawks
Not surprised, and hopefully he'll get a good shot in Edmonton, but I will miss #46. Good luck Colin!

Hopefully, next season's team chemistry will be as good as this year's. I don't see why it won't be, but that's the one possible downside I can see from making a lot of personnel changes.

i liked Fras a lot. I think he will get treated well with the Oilers and hes a good guy to have on that team for character. Glad he at least got delt to a Western Canadian team so hes close to his family.

He'll get to play and he's much closer to home, as TCD points out.

And as we all know, it's much easier to turn your team into a contender in 3 or 4 years, than it used to be.

I don't really understand this move. I guess Burish is going to be our fourth line center? Or Reasoner?

I dont like this trade at all. Fras seamed to be a well liked guy in the group and didnt cost any money. Must have asked for over a mil/year, otherwise I cant realy understand this one.

Reasoner will be the 4th line center. Burish is gone.

When the Hawks took Reasoner and his 1.15 million cap hit, it pushed Fraser out the door. Even though Fraser made 700K last year, the Hawks need to round out the roster(After settling up with Hjalmasson and Niemi) on the cheap. And I mean cheap.

If Beach is on the roster next year, his base salary is 875K. A player making 500K must be brought in to bring the average down. Fraser with his low salary with just a marginal raise does not fit the bill.
Damn I think he is worth more than a 6th... oh well, best of luck to Colin!
What's he worth?

It basically tells you the Hawks had no interest in retaining him, which drops his value-- if he ever had any. I seriously think even if the Hawks were not in cap hell, he'd be out the door.

Correct, we basically got something for nothing. Fra was not coming back, loved the kids work ethic and thank him for his contribution to the Cup.

Rumors are also stating that Reasoner might have be traded again for a pick, but this might not be happening now because of the Fraser deal.

I dunno I guess my fan goggles are getting in the way... I really liked Fras. The way he carried himself was awesome and at least he'll get more playing time on the Oilers.

Hope he does well with the Oil. Got to think there is room for this guy on some team's fourth line. Plus he can play the kill and is decent at faceoffs. Good Luck Colin.

It makes sense if Reasoner's back out the door.

It may happen with Huet as well. Trade for salary dumps and a few late round picks.

The Hawks gambled with cap hell, and it paid off in the short run. Let's see if they can find the role players to handle another long run.

...which should tell you the state of the Oil.
